(According to the wonder that is Google) apparently this is a Scandinavian Pigeon!  (may be)  or it is also classified  as a Rock Pigeon or a (whatever!)

Now,  if our very own Northernlights is of the opinion that all of these pigeons are migrating here from Scandinavia to escape the cold weather 'over there' which will soon appear 'over here' then all of the overly clued up professionals  can go take a hike,  as I am sticking with the Northernlights prediction (mainly because I have had more than several varieties of pigeon feeding regularly at my feeding station lately.)

Now, how to get close enough to a flock of pigeons to take a picture?

Will certainly be drifts metres deep in places. The high winds at altitude tend to redistribute snow, leaving some areas scoured of snow cover and others with deep cover, with a lot of snow drifting into sheltered hollows and gullies. The various SAIS blogs should give some idea.

Hmm <strokes beard> my beard, that is, not yours. They do seem to be coming thick and fast.

Cold rain with the odd slightly sleety burst come in off the firth since mid afternoon. Look to carry on through the night.

I'd say that on the hill behind my house that we walk the dog on, there's at least a metre of snow, very minimum. There's been no appreciable thaw of the snow that's been lying on the forestry tracks since Xmas Eve, and the more recent falls are still sticking to the trees. That's above 350m roughly, up to just over 400m. The higher hills must have much more in places. 

Snow still falling here and getting deeper, maybe 2cm on the driveway which we've just cleared. Hope the daughter gets home soon or we might have to have a second go as the initial bit is a short, sharp climb from the road.

Monsoon like rain here...way to borderline for most unless 250m plus and way up north... Keep chasing those 10 day charts for serious cold

This was as good as it got in Lanarkshire today - this was at about 150m asl. Down here in the Clyde valley, it was equally dreich, but without the smattering of wet snow

Sleet and snow hasn't really stopped since mid afternoon but only started lying properly a couple of hours ago - reasonable covering building now.

Same here! Judging by radar, even the elevated areas are getting soaked. Gonna be a lot of run off tomorrow. Some high burns!

What a manky grey cold day it has been what was left of the snow has all washed away...it was good while it lasted.

Currently its lashing down with rain bloody cold rain at that its showing 2.0deg/C outside the ground and cloud temp is 0.4deg/C.

The radar say's it all...

 

Looking at the freezing level its clear to see why there is no snow around the central belt we are on the wrong side of the transition line.

 

Saturday however shows the freezing level much more favourable but no weather fronts around unfortunately.

Went to bed torrential rain , woke to the same 

if only it snowed as heavy as it could rain . The front has came way higher than forecast then just hung around  for 10 hours . I r we oils imagine some possible flooding in areas

Sweet spot again, very snowy looking outside this morning. We'll see when it's lighter where the snowline lies but it's been around 0C here at 200m all night so might be soggy snow at best lower down.

Obviously, living on the very edge of the yellow warning area was never going to bode well for me. After heavy rain for best part of the day yesterday, I've woken this morning to a horrible sleety rain falling which is turning my garden into a swimming pool due to the canine ice speedway that continues to hold firm.  I'm dreading seeing the state of the grass once this has all gone.

Currently 1.6c, DP 0.6c, both of which are the lowest since midnight (3.4c/2.4c).

Great to see some snow pics this morning - get out and enjoy it while you can

A horrible grey morning here but the torrential rain has eased a little at least! 

Looking forward to a dry Saturday hopefully!
