Temp here is a frosty -1c and DP -1.6c according to my garden sensor. I expect it will rise as the cloud builds.

I can confirm rain! Currently freezing on to ground with a thick layer of ice. Just in from a walk and could barely stand up by the time I was back at the house. Amazed there is no ice warning from the Met.

Will see what those further inland and with a bit more elevation get.

If you have rain, then no chance of anything remotely white here.

It is starting to turn to snow here but still mostly sleet, so there is hope for those further east...

It’s clouding over that’ll be lifting the temp, the snow will bring it down again lol

Rain / sleet but freezing instantly

Evening folks, some more interest over the next few days although, as ever, pretty marginal. Sort of sleety here, if you squint, but I think with both tonight and tomorrow the intensity will be pretty key in determining where we see things staying the right side of marginal (some backedge potential I'd say in both cases), and coastal modification, tonight from the west and tomorrow, eventually, from the east, will be a factor.

Certainly seems like the foreseeable will stay cold enough for snowfalls and beyond that there's certainly reason to think we're pretty well placed for more cold spells, and maybe some proper deep cold at some stage too, as we head into February.

I'm up bright and early at 7.15am for a presentation (the perils of doing a Masters remotely from a different time zone!) but I'm hoping to have a little more time after that to dig into the charts and nowcasting properly.

Latest ECM monthly temperature (T2m) Anomalies are looking good for us - no sign of anything above average/blowtorch! We continue with the cold theme for the first half of February and then a bit more average for the second half.

Does anyone remember the days we used to get Atlantic storms in Winter!? 

It was only last Winter this happened...as we all know it was validated a few days later. 
 

Winter 2020/21 is delivering the cold/snowy goods for many of us - just need that big BFTE grand finale to put the icing on it all!

Here fair at -1C and that cloud looks to be staying well South of us unfortunately.

Typical, just enough cloud to mask the fun - that allowing the temperature to rise just above freezing after falling to -1c at 8pm.

However, can get a nice view of it just now on this webcam in Shetland
