[Northernlights]

A very cold windy frosty but sunny day yesterday has been replaced with  a milder (just 3c) day today with a bit of overnight rain making the icy ground very slippy.

Lowest overnight here -1.0c. currently 3.8c.   Cloud building.   Frost still hanging on in shaded parts.

Waiting to see what tonight brings then...(or not.)

The front for tonight looks pretty heavy on radar north of N.Ireland currently (if its the same one). Meto text forecast doesn't make that much of it...

 

"Chance of some wintry showers, perhaps giving a slight covering of snow in places. Otherwise dry with clear periods, especially across northern Argyll. Widespread frost and a risk of icy patches. Minimum temperature -2 °C"

After the damp showery start, turned out a lovely sunny day for the most part.

Perfect weather to throw the kids outside to vent their frustration at the football goal rather than each other!

In the light winds, actually felt quite mild out there in the sunshine with a max of 4.5c making it the warmest day for a while.

Frost already reforming in the shaded areas of the driveway though still reading 2.1c on the thermometer.

Nice sunset like yesterday..

Hint of some showers far to the east going by the pink tops...

A shower of rain and sleet just after lunch, but apart from that it has been sunny again. More of a thaw today although the snow is hanging on in the shade. Everything now frozen solid and with the earlier shower, it’s just sheet ice out there.

What’s that blob to the west likely to do? Rain, snow, fragment as it reaches the coast, track to the north?

It would be nice to have a bitter ENE wind with convective snow showers rather than this hopeful marginal stuff,,,fingers crossed February brings us this

Agreed but If winter ended tomorrow I couldn't possibly complain! This winter has been really very good to us so far but our ridiculous luck with being on the right side of marginal should eventually run out!

I'm guessing the MetO will have another fail with this latest system @JoeShmoe  Let's see what tonight and tomorrow brings.

Longer term remains of interest with any number of possibilities (Easterly/Scandi High, GH Block, wedges etc.  In fact the only option I haven't seen is full on zonal.

Given the + hours it's never going to be exactly like that but assuming it was look at the lobe of PV in the Arctic, with the Pacific and Atlantic heights trying to link over Greenland there's only one direction that PV lobe would head and that's SW towards us I mentioned in my last post in the mod thread I expected to see nice cold charts coming out tying in with the MJO going toward phase 7 in particular, here's hoping.

Hope @Met4Cast doesn't mind me posting this in here. Some further interest in short term for Scotland especially further north. 

Also think the latest ECM, has not only got us remaining in colder air now but interesting looking day on Thursday.

Still working here... although the intensity of the sleet just increased on the latest frame at 19:00 so it probably is broken

The intensity suddenly reduced at around 18.15 and then increased again at 19.00. Something not working in the system!

I think we have a lot of cold rain incoming in Ayrshire. Both temp and dew point too high. Doh!
