Down at my mums in the shire and we have freezing rain tinkling away and treacherous

Never thought I would say this, but I will be glad to get rid of the snow now.

Road conditions today were definitely the worst they've been this winter, which makes a mockery of the Met Office weather warnings as all we have is yellow warning for ice!

Nothing about the gale force winds and powder snow combining to close many roads at both low and high level, as well documented by previous posts here and on social media in sites like Fubar News  https://www.facebook.com/FubarNews.  Heck, even the main arterial routes are closed (eg A96).  Poor show really that the most disruptive spell of weather has gained barely a mention.

Overnight low of -1.5, daytime high of 0.1c and now -1.1c.  Strong to gale force SE wind.

Typical state of access roads round here...

You can see why the roads were quickly infilled - tractor had just cleared this road and already drifts reforming...

Exposed fields quickly scoured..

Stunning day though, memorable weather.

Freezing rain in Ayr, strangest sound

With the wind today, this spell has had almost everything really.  Since 1 Feb we had fluffy showers, wet snow, a complete melt, marginal snow then completely non-marginal heavy snow that steadily built into deep cover.  We also then had severe frost, wonderful cloudscapes, ice days and today severe drifting.  I think if we get freezing rain tomorrow that would complete the bingo sheet!

Proper freezing rain here. Outside car is encased in ice. Sounds like hailstones falling.

Yep heavy snow here also, totally unexpected. Nice to see the roads and cars all white again

Snow /graupel here too, wouldn't be surprised if there is some freezing rain mixed in as it's making a strange sound hitting off the windows!

I can say there’s also a mix of snow and graupel here. It sounds different from normal snow. All surfaces covered with fresh snow.

Affric was very snowy. and we've had a dusting at home.

I've done a sort of blitzen and bust my leg falling on ice so no more pics from me for a while. hurts. Sent home from raigmore with a pair of  crutches. I'd best not say any more just now.

Heavy snow now switched to freezing rain. Oddest sound. Sounds like hail hitting the window. Outside it’s tinkling on everything as it falls, the drops are frozen where they land, yet if I stick my hand out it’s wet.

Think we've got some freezing rain here too. Not something i've experienced much but it looks like a dull frosty sheen on cars and exposed bits of pavement and sound like light hail showers on the windows.

in other news I’m staying down in the shire with maw and can confirm as happened earlier the wintry stuff is kidding us by about two miles I do not miss the snap sheiks here

Yeah there's a yellow warning out. 

 

Icey/freezing rain here, sounds nice and the car is covered in it, but glad I'm not driving!

Could of checked that

heading home first thing so hopefully roads will of been well gritted and I can’t believe I’m going to say it I honestly hope there is no more snow at home because the streets are a nightmare we needs to parks the cars up on the neon road
