Interesting to see the sat image of snow covered (mostly) Scotland and comparing it with this warning from the fire service. Whilst most of us are under deep snow the western fringes are at high wildfire fire risk.

No idea what the temperature is here as the car won't start (doesn't like the cold), the campers in the garage and I don't have a weather station. Mr Snowidea has just returned from a round trip 4 mile walk with essentials (wine) from the supermarket. Puppy liking the snow.

Yes - spot on.

-20C was registered on a PWS.

-18.8C is our official lowest of Winter so far as at 21:00.

-18.6C there now at 22:00.

 

Keep an eye on Braemar into the early hours - Met Office going with -21C now.

 

@Kirkcaldy Weather Not sure mate - looked this up myself in the past and could not find anything with regards to record for lowest dewpoint temperature.

About -10c here, local traffic Scotland weather station is broken now but next closest is -9 about 40mins ago. (my own isn't in a  reliable location) I've just been out throwing boiling water into the garden, neighbours must think I'm mad but I'm enjoying it

Hi  guys!  Thanks for your concern.

Actually, felt quite at home in hospital amongst the 'baw' talk!  Mine was a' baw'  joint though, completely out of its socket!

Had to go through a procedure, after a few x-rays, to re-locate it!     Thankfully, they knocked me out for that.   Must have been at least 8 straight hours in there.   Not long home.

Anyhoo, what an event eh? I think easily 30cms out front and 40cms out back!   (House shelter.)

Currently -2.7c/-4.8c/E/calm.

I feel your pain @Blitzen, I dislocated and broke mine 4 days before Christmas but they managed to relocate mine with just gas & air thankfully. My x-rays were a treat to look at haha.  Still suffering pain yet and physio is torture! Glad you're home again, take things easy for the next few weeks.

Cloud's rolled in again here and temp has gone up from -7.4c to -5.7c quite quickly

As I had mentioned in a previous post, it is difficult to determine exactly how much Snaw we got here due to the winds which accompanied the heavy showers and caused much drifting. I can see some neighbours gardens which have had more shelter from the swirling winds and the auld patio table top standard would look to be a good 12" plus! A decent event me thinks and very picturesque indeed

Would it be right tae say that the the warm up early next week, may be short lived and the Easterlies will be back very soon?

Depends on where the high sets up and whether it is far enough North and retrogresses I think but possible. 
Meanwhile from Western Isles weather a wildfire on Benbecula tonight.

I'd say 60/40% of the scandi high building,the 0zs will be interesting to see which way the trend.

@101_North That's what happened here. We ended up climbing right up to -5.2C, we are now back down to -5.6C. At this point I am not sure what to expect. Netweather has us down as dropping to -10.8C around 3am, so we will see.

@Blitzen I am so glad you are back home, we've all been getting quite worried!

Wonderful photos going through the day's posts this evening. Relieved Blitzen's home and safe. Shame about Ravelin's icicle fail... 

Ms HC got a snow day so we spent nearly all daylight hours out and about. 

  Rather snowier by the cathedral than yesterday afternoon, although it's strange how this scene never looks especially snowy. No obvious messy places for it to accumulate.

First up to Arabella Woods by soon after 9 so the snow was still thick on the trees. We were the first in, so had that feeling of going somewhere untouched (which is nonsense of course!) Felt quite continental - the last of those 4 photos with the beech could be any upland winter scene in middle Europe...

      

Then round by Raddery and home      

 

Currently -6.4C -7.1C here and seems to have bottomed for now  on its way down again.

Interesting to note from the satellite images that much of the NW Highlands apart from the west coast fringe is snowy, which the radar hasn't shown at all.

Also, it's so good to see all these posts and how we all accept each other with different views on the world about us - albeit just with the weather as a topic. I've pretty much given up on FB and other forums as they're too easily taken over by thugs and idiots.
