The roads are fine now. Traffic was slower last night after a few showers but other than that it’s been okay.

Well being up a hill kept us out of the chilliest of the air last night as the temp stayed around -4C throughout. Currently a sunny -3C. We cleared a bit of snow from the driveway this morning but mainly what fell yesterday afternoon, I don't think there was much, if anything, overnight. Out of curiosity I got the stepladders out and measured 40cm of snow on the garage roof. That was a north facing part so likely minimal melt, but it's also deeper in places too where it's drifted/sheltered.

There's some good icicles forming in places though, especially to the south facing front of the house as the roof gets the sun. This monster is the most impressive of the lot....

There's actually a hole drilled in the gutter above the bracket that helps keep the hanging basket watered during the summer, but is also letting any meltwater drip through. I, very carefully, measured the length as 1.2m from the bracket to the tip, and 1.7m from the gutter to the tip. We are waiting in anticipation to see if it can reach the ground before the thaw sets in, it's only got another 1m to go.

Well we even joined in the fun overnight waking up to a 5cm coating on top of the exiting stuff, so must have had a blob come over. Temp went down to -5.9C so thirty ninth air frost.

Looks like a few Anstruther clippers might squeeze their way over here, wouldn't bet on intensity, suspect these are going to fade in potency.

Will send in some pictures later but ended up with 28-29cm level here SE of Perth. Those depths didn’t even cross my mind 48 hours ago. Was expecting 15-20cm at very best. The last 48 hours here saw some of the most relentless snowfall rates I have ever seen. Exceeding 3” per hour at times and lasting 15-30 minutes at a time. I am just going to round my numbers up to a foot of snow. I wonder how long the snow shovel piles will last?

I'm estimating that even with a warm up to above normal temps the snow piles around my driveway, and the ploughed piles along the minor road, will last well into March. With the depth of snow that must be on the trails and the hill behind my house, I'd say that there will be remnants of snow up there well into April if not longer.

Indeed let's see what the Ukmo and ECM say on their runs later maybe a brief mild spell followed by the high building much more to our North East ,that little polar low that was showing the other day and pretty much disappeared from the fax charts might be reappearing snow warnings now issued for Friday for the east it would be very light snow at best I'd say will keep an eye on it

Noticed that. It would certainly kill the uppers and further snow chances for a while, but the surface cold in a Southerly/SSE-erly/SE-erly up the spine of the UK (if that's how the flow turns out) would keep a lot of the snow on the ground for quite a while - could feel even more bitter actually. Would generally work locally even here, as we get to pretend that we're "inland" (LOL) relative to Berwick-upon-Tweed, and as long as we can maintain night ground frosts at least.

Impressive overnight snow if time consuming to clear!

Currently -4.4c, though above freezing in a localised area around the other half as they've gone out to blow off some steam thanks to Aldi and their £70 parking charges (15 minute overstay thanks to the in store queuing system).  Got to say, the indifference from Aldi after a £140+ family shop has been eye opening so it's going to be Lidl from now on - they cancelled the charge but a lot of calls to get there.  You can see how others give up without appealing after the threatening letters you get from Parking Eye.

It's bad enough not being able to get to the Alps this year to go skiing, but it's just torture not being able to even get to the slopes on your own back door when they look this good.

Amazing stuff, very glad to see Edinburgh and my bit of Fife properly ending up with a pasting. Rare to see such a relatively even distribution of depths like this (southwest Scotland excepted sadly), certainly on a par with 2009/10 and 2010/11 for that.

Depths here ended up around an even foot, not a massive amount more after the first streamer last night but certainly can't complain about that!

Going to make the most of it today and then I can get back to the weather studies I'm actually meant to be doing tomorrow

As for the polar low, if it is indeed that, it looks as though it'll stay offshore but with it an enhanced line of convection will come back into northeast Scotland Thursday night into Friday, so that's worth watching:

The charts have generally been getting worse longer term, but I do think it's still possible we hang onto a continental flow of some form past the weekend and from there who knows -it's far from an immediate breakdown and the temperatures tonight will be exceptionally cold, along with some continued convection (I think some chances of a tiny bit more snow even here this afternoon still).

Always keep an eye open for photos of your bench(mark), one of the visual highlights of the back to back cauld winters a decade ago.

Long time just reading all the chat in here. Great reading all the banter lol. Seems Skelmorlie has even been hit with the easterly along with south of Glasgow and Johnstone.

We had sugar icing yesterday and that’s it. You just know that Saturday is going to have the fateful too marginal!

If you're after a skiing fix, there's a great spot 20 minutes away over at Premnay (Auchleven). Drive through Premnay and take the right turn for Insch. Look for the massive field on your left and you've arrived. Bit of a hike up! but there's no nasty surprises underneath the snow. Boarded there years ago and it was great. No shops, so bring supplies. Toilets are alfresco.
