Moderate more fluffy type snow on here - just the hint that it may start to stick on certain surfaces.

This winter the term ‘marginal’ has defo become my least favourite word.

We can see snow showers to the south-east over the firth but they don't look the least bit like coming this way.

@Ravelin any chance of a clip of your toy in action?

Thinking of buying one?   Because........I.......Fill in the blanks!!

Right, just for fun and I’m keeping to Fife only, there’s too many on the thread these days for a full round up!

Snowfall predictions tonight through Wednesday (total snowfall):

@Benvironment 30cm

@Big Innes Madori 25cm

@Blitzen 20cm

@Kirkcaldy Weather 12cm

@ghoneym 10cm

@LomondSnowstorm (Fife location) 18cm

@Snowlover2 20cm

@Hawesy <drum roll> 5cm

Ach I’ll throw in Dundee too:

@Norrance 15cm

@Sawel 20cm

Apologies to anyone I’ve missed out!

I do fear Freuchie is in line for a really good snowfall, the one time I'm away somewhere that's not stupidly snowy (wasn't quite so bad seeing pictures of a couple of inches last year when I was in the Alps or in 2016/17 when I was in Stockholm ).

A bit cooler here with sleet on and off since last night. Temps have not changed much at all yet.

No, it’s been 3.9c here since 11am. Will hopefully start to drop off soon. It’s falling further north as per the Aberdeen(shire) reports.

I got caught in a deceptively heavy shower on my walk today near Auchinstarry Marina and a lighter one that was a bit sleety on the way back through Croy, don't think it quite made it through to Coatbridge properly but it's a decent sign for when it turns properly later on.

3.7C / 2.8C DP for me, I'm expecting them to start dropping off from around 6pm and will be very interesting to see how long it takes for snow to lie with such a wet ground

Tough going out there, not helped by yesterday's power cuts.

Speaking of which...When I went to bed last night around 11ish, our road was in total darkness. (because street lights were out )   At least our section was  but further up was okay.   Up at 6.30/ 7am and they were still out..  Hope they are fixed soon, because that would mean my main precipitation type observational tool opposite my window would be wiped out!   Bad timing or what?!

Erm I couldn't think of a more pointless bit of equipment here.  But maybe it could be adapted for blowing leaves around? Plenty of idiots around here who like their leaves blown from one part of the garden to another by burning petrol, so the next blowy day the leaves go 'wahay, back we go!'

The 950 temps go from being a mess for most to being almost perfect for most in 12 hours (4pm to 4am):

950? I’m so confused now

I know about 850s, 500s, 2m’s, wet bulb and dew points but now I’m lost

Funny you should say that.   We have, what I like to call our sookerupperer which has the blowing facility also.   I think they all do.  Never used it!   As you say, pointless.

That's understandable, I think sometimes on the forum we've developed terms that even meteorologists wouldn't really understand out of context

Basically, you want the eastern edge of the low (black line) to be tilting from SE to NW so that the warmer air from the south is going directly north of the low, which will strengthen the block and mean the low won't be able to move northeast and bring the milder air in with it:

image.thumb.png.c20240503f80ee9a343ba818baa39b03.png

You'd also want the low to then link up, in some way, with the low over Italy, somewhere around where the red line is. You'd also want to see less of the purples to the east of Greenland too to allow the high to build a bit further north. These things are driven by a number of other factors but for looking at how each model changes that's a decent way to see whether what's happening is better or worse. In terms of actual weather though that chart is quite a snowy one for eastern Scotland and that's probably the main thing for now

Thanks for explaining that

As soon as it starts to stick it stops..

Don't worry it will be back ,the main thing is we have favourable dew points now temps are slowly dropping too Ellon should be good for streamers once they start ,the joys of coastal life sadly is lots of frustration while others inland get all the fun

Well, the chart you put up for the expected water levels around my area were spot on!   Here's hoping these will be too!
