Kingswells - still technically a city suburb but right on the city/shire border. Snow getting heavier now and building nicely.

I remember when Kingswells was in the ‘shire ?‍♀️

Almost as good as Westhill for sna.

It is showing up very nicely on the TrafficScotland road cameras currently. There seems to be some form of intermittent sleet here this evening.

Fingers crossed as the night goes on and the colder air digs in we'll see more and more parts of the city come into the game.

Where is highest point in the city ? Must be in Mastrick ?

Turning to snow in culter now - lower uppers must be kicking in now ?

Excluding western suburbs I would presume so. Good to see more snow being reported in the region!

Yes, I believe Dalwhinnie just pips Braemar and Tomintoul.

Corgarff is higher but that's a mere hamlet as opposed to a village.

I think Wanlockhead in the Southern Uplands is the highest village in Scotland

Its been nothing but heavy rain here on and off today! Starting to get some sleet now but hoping its turns into big flakes sooner rather than later! ❄❄❄

Yes, highest point is between Mastrick and Northfield near the Sheddocksley playing fields at 130m. Although I think some parts of north Sheddocksley might get near to 140m

Spot on sir!

Yes, for mean elevation, Dalwhinnie is the highest. It doesn't fall below 350 metres above sea level and maxes out at 360 metres. Tomintoul isn't any higher than Braemar despite some outdated info you'll read on websites about it being the highest village in the Highlands. Braemar maxes out at 370 metres on Chapel Brae. Tomintoul maxes out at just over 350 metres. For mean altitude, I think Braemar pips Tomintoul although it's a bit tricky to compare these two for mean altitude due to the fact that they're 10 times the size of Dalwhinnie and there's much more area to cover.

Highest point used to be the top of Upper Mastrick Way, not sure if that’s still the case now.

Corgarff is nearer 400m and c0ck Bridge (is it even a hamlet?) is 410m.

Wanlockhead is around 430m.

Well that does run parallel to the highest point but just a tad further east - I walked up that road tonight actually. There won't be much in it. Just like where the Northfield mast is, very similar around the 120m mark

Incidentally, just at the highest point in Springhill Road, there is a post with what looks like a camera and/or a weather station!

I'll maybe take a photo of it next time I'm there - would love to know what it actually is

Corgarff is a cracking wee place, met a couple pals there when restrictions were loose back in summer. The plan is to have another uni reunion this summer there too.

Although I left Dumfries in like 19c and it was about 12c up there, autumnal in late July haha

Wanlockhead is 1531 feet (466m asl) as per their sign - photo below, Leadhills not far behind

Unfortunately, that claimed altitude was shot down quite a while back - I remember reading about it after there was a dispute between Wanlockhead and Flash in Staffordshire about the highest village in the UK.

NEWS Flash - the highest village on our patch is now officially the most lofty settlement in Britain.

Two villages in the southern uplands both claim to be the highest in the country.

You can get pretty accurate altitude readings here -

Find an estimate for the elevation of a point on the earth

just type in the place name. A quick look confirms Wanlockhead maxes out just over 440m.

They need to take down their sign then!!

I heard Flash is a pretty small village, Leadhills has a pub for instance.
