Noticed the met office have tweaked their warnings to further inland away from the coasts. They have also brought forward the amber warning to this afternoon..

I actually moved here in July 2018 so missed this action below!  (My old house in Croftfoot is in the warning area at the moment for Saturday, Sunday and Monday)

Back to the here and now...snow warnings galore, few folk in here up to their knees in snow at the moment/soon and a cold/wintry outlook for the foreseeable future!

Great stuff for the Scottish thread! This is what Winter is all about!

Snow showers off and on but the real difference over the last couple of hours is the rise in temperature - now 2.1c and it's making a significant impact on the snow cover.

So, we went from 2cm at 9am to zero in three hours...

Admittedly that is going to be the type of surface that melts quickly but you see the same on the roofs etc; snow on the ground though holding on well.  Surprised actually at the amount of melt as the Met Office et al had a max of 1c here.

Seem to be plenty of gritters out on the Alford road just now, or at least heading out to somewhere!  The snow out by Lumsden and Tarland must be getting phenomenal.

Edit - Always amazing how a little distance and altitude makes such a difference in the weather.  Aberdeen looks miserable with no snow to be seen...

Snow chains have arrived. Snow hasn't. Bugger. Still, the advert said they are great in mud, which is good. Ish.

Temperature 2.3deg.C up from 1.4deg.C min. at midnight, humidity 91%, wind 5 to 10mph easterly generally with a 15mph gust a couple of hours ago, pressure 1007.1hPa steady, there's been 5.2mm of rain so far today, cloud cover is 8/8 and the dew point is at 1deg.C.

Diablo, he say snow, but he's obviously heard about the snow chains and he's taking the pish.

Oh, and I received my letter from Oor Nicola this morning inviting me, as a special person, for my vaccination on the 13th of this month, which is unfortunately a day late for me to be able to attend the funerals of my aunt and father. Bugger. Again.

This winter the Met haven't covered themselves in glory. Today however, they've been bang on with their forecast/warning.

2.2C and very rainy sleet. Snowline up at 270m, but having driven to the supermarket and back on the road that goes that high, (I say road, when of course I mean deteriorating gravel track littered with potholes you could bathe in), it's sleet up there so it's definitely retreating back up the mountains.

Still in fairly content if it’s a streamer they’re going for. I’m not sure the weather companies are aware quite how much snow made it through here in 2018! 10-15 cm at sea level minimum.

What is different this time around that suggests less intense showers?

Honestly don’t think I’m being unreasonable to ask for 1 cm lying on the ground

Still the same story in Aberdeen today - mixture of rain, sleet, graupel or wet snow. Interesting that the met office has rain forecast for the rest of the day but the BBC has snow. I suspect the met office will be correct...

However, i have been cheered up by the latest models which now seem to suggest temperatures low enough for snow to sea level into next weekend now! Last nights charts suggested a breakdown by Thursday. We shall see...

I remember in 2018 that pretty much all of Glasgow was just outside the red warning zone, but should have been included as conditions in the city actually became dangerous on the afternoon of the 28th February.

Difficult to tell what will happen this time but if it’s even a mini version of 2018 then we should all get something. It just feels a long way off just now because of the rain, and the fact that forecasters are really hedging their bets for now.

Looking back through my photos from 28th Feb 2018 I found a photo with me holding a measuring tape showing 7 inches. Pretty sure I expected nothing on that occasion.

Afternoon Kilties! Much the same here today as it was yesterday, so a case of rinse and repeat! Dry, cloudy and breezy. Cannae get much more boring than that! Current temp is 4.7c with a wind chill of 4.4c. Hmmmm.  Not entirely convinced that's correct!  However, at least it's dry which is a lot better than some parts of Auld Scotia! Rain, rain and more rain in  for some! That's pure p1sh! So, who reckons they'll be snowed in over the next 4 - 5 days?

Pishing doon in Perth (Rain) has been couple of days. Is this likely to change to heavy snow and settle? When,  How much? Any charts for accumulation?

I was thinking about the relative disappointment of the front for most of us (sleet trending to rain now here), but also the totals we're already seeing and are likely to see in Aberdeenshire and the Highlands. While clearly it was much easier to get decent frontal snowfall for lower levels in winters past, I do think that in order to get the crazy snowfall totals without very cold uppers you do tend to end up with a lot of folk sitting with cold rain or slush. I know we've discussed this before but the 1978 blizzard had these uppers before the front moves east: 

Even if it is a bit rubbish for those of us not affected, it probably is worth it because this snowfall could be talked about in that sort of vain for years and decades to come, and even then we still get a shot at easterlies and maybe even some snow at Hawesy's house, which really would be a historic event .

Another attempt at wet snaw overnight, but it turned back to yet mair sleety p1sh - which has kept on going up until now, giving the sum total of 7.2mm since 9pm last night.

Currently 2.3°C/3°C and bowfing oot.

I'm fairly sure someone's transplanted Banchory to the coast because all I'm seeing is wet sleety p*sh coming down when all around us has proper sna!

Currently 3.3c/1.3c and wind coming from SE.  Is it too much to ask to give us a decent dump of sna?!

is there any danger at all i will wake up to any snow tomorrow, im thinking not but from a work perspective i need to make an accurate call
