Just started heavy here too. Not laying yet.

I was in Braemar this time last year, got some pics from the guys up there today.. Here's the Fife Arms.

It is for Perth and kinross  for populated areas, there is a network pf private owners like farmers on a standby list. Unusual for bear i would have thought.

Well, hopefully, I can enjoy a nice relaxing evening watching the snow through the window.   It's been one of those days where I have been meeting myself on the way back from most of what I've been doing!

Today,+3c,wind easterly 22mph at Aline near the Lewis/Harris border.Snow been lying on the high ground (highest Clisham at 799m) for a few weeks now,consistent with being on the north side and the cold side of the jetstream.

Beautiful! Was just watching a wee video from there earlier!

Look at that depth above and then add on a potential 30cm to 50cm later Thursday into Saturday - bonkers stuff! 

Promised myself earlier I would not look at charts again but this is a special event/occasion! 

This is seriously impressive snowfall!

Thanks @Polar Side and @Norrance - interesting memories of January 1987.

And yes the deep cold arrived on a Saturday, Sunday was dry and sunny (in Glasgow) and the fun started overnight into Monday. I think the thaw started on the Thursday (at low levels) but it took ages for all the snow to melt under leaden grey easterly skies.  The deep cold lasted longer over SE England  in that spell.

Im sure the East Neuk would have seen some decent snow too.

That’s right, the south east of England bore the brunt of the cold 850’s and I think the high sank down on top of Scotland cutting off the cold supply from the East from the Thursday.

Light snow back on here. Pretty wet stuff and not a chance of it settling yet.

It's been snowing all day here, but while heavy - it was far too wet and didn't do much.

Then the temperature dropped in the last hour or so

 

and snow started to settle in various places (but not the roads yet)

Temperature is fluctuating between 0.1 and 0.2C at the moment.

What is it with men and peas?   Shuggee prefers the mushy variety though!  Personally, I wouldn't like to be within a country mile of either of you beyond an hour of stuffing yourselves!!

Wasn’t working today so had a local walk. Had the place to myself. It seems folk don’t like walking in 3c, 35mph winds and driving rain and sleet.  Coastal path was a bit muddy too.

Given the isobars being so clustered id be surprised if there aren't troughs that develop in that flow with more organised bands of snow pushing well inland but they wont be modelled until nearer the time id guess although those 'barbed' trough lines are already on the 120 faxes as Kirkcaldy mentions above ... 

 

More SE in direction on the 12z even on the meto, I’ve seen it so many times you’ll watch the showers passing to the North and we end up with just flurries and not that far up in fife they have 6 inches, Edinburgh definitely needs the wind to be ENE

sorta snowing here, its 1.6c and small flakes blowing around in the wind, but not that heavy.
