Ok, just had a look at the ECM and it’s not a bad run.

I think we’re all a bit scared to ramp it up in case it all goes wrong but that was some run.

The low squeezing against the high will really drive the streamers in across the whole of Scotland you would think with a high wind chill and drifting.

Hello everyone - Long time lurker here and have just registered and now posting for first time. Have really enjoyed reading everyone’s posts on this thread and seeing the snow updates across Scotland. I’m old enough to remember the classic 70s and 80’s winters - growing up in the moray firth area. Been quite snow starved here in the Aberdeen area so far this winter but maybe that’s about to change

Absolutely chucking it down, higher ground in places must be getting buried. I'm almost scared to look in the MT... Was very confident yesterday but I'm now feeling a bit 50 50 on a significant easterly.... As LS says should be clearer in 24 hours. 

My snow not that was ever more than 3 or 4cm has hung on in frozen variations till today but alas this is all that now remains

Been working tonight out on roads , sleet in dundee, rain/ sleet in Perth, glenalmond about 10 miles outside Perth - 3/4 cm at least

Snowing again and still have dusting from earlier - maybe underwhelmed but to be fair @LomondSnowstorm did say tomorrow might be better chance of something more persistent. Still looking good for Friday onwards though and ECM snow chart is outrageous - we can dream eh!

Big thanks to lomond and kdy weather. Learned a hell of alot from you two over the years just shows you never know who is reading and learning from you. Anyway thank you all excellent forum for an excellent hobby. Mon the Snow.

12:00 1.1°C heavy snow blowing horizontally or even up the hill - patchy coverings 

14:30 0.7°C heavy big snow blowing everywhere - sticking and covering 

16:30 0.9°C heavy small snow flakes - patchy

21:00 1.4°C heavy small snow flakes - wet baws says naw

Quite a day in a 40mph gale from the east.

It better snow soon to shut the other half up - "thought you said it would snow, its jaffa cakesing down outside and I'm soaked.".  Guess which half had the home-schooling duties today so the rain was the icing on the cake of a stressful day for them 

Mind you, they are right - its vile outside with moderate rain blowing straight into your face thanks to the strong easterly wind that has noticeably increased in the last few hours.

Temperature 1.7c and the ground conditions downright muddy as its thawing surprisingly fast - to think 24 hours ago it was around -6c!

Much better GFS tonight (18z run), slowly getting back to where it was few days back but maybe best wait until tomorrow for confirmation. Scotland much surely be nailed on further cold weather now - well that is my plan anyway

The temperature has been all over the place this evening...when I got home fom work it was around the 1deg/C mark and was up as high as 1.7deg/C now its reading 0.6deg/C and at last there now appears to be a wintry mix showing on the lamp post.

I was having a look at the pressure charts on the beeb and I think it quite clearly shows why there is more of a sleety mix rather than snow.

Today...there is definitely a mild mix of air in this one.

Thursday...starts to draw colder air into the mix.

Saturday...is looking better still.

Sunday...now we have the North Sea getting going.

Monday...full flow North Sea streamers...awesome.

 

All of this subject to change of course..!!!

Meanwhile, just up the road, we've gone from a low of 1C to a high of 1.8C in the last hour or so. Like you say, it's all over the place.

Just as I saw your post the temp is now back up at +1.3deg/C....we must be right on the edge of the milder / cold air.

Just caught one of the more intense blobs and the difference was stark. More snow settled in 10 mins than in 2hrs. Currently really do need that intensity in order to gain.....but proper blizzard up here when it does. Seriously unpleasant out there but the road is still clear as the snow's not dry enough to drift.

Never got going here today. Bits of sleet in the heavier bursts but mostly rain. Expect the mountains copped a fair bit

Seriously unimpressed this evening! After our surprise snowfall overnight on Sunday and our blue sky snow day yesterday, the skies today looked like they'd be full of promise. Indeed, we had a wee snow shower this morning and I had high hopes that more would follow but no, in typical Scottish 'snatching defeat from the jaws of victory' fashion, Banchory's sna has all but disappeared thanks to 5.59mm of pishy wet sleety stuff that's been falling pretty much all evening.  Currently 2.4c/1.0c but the wind is coming from the east so as a true Scot, I'm nae giving up just yet.

   

At this rate, the only thing that'll survive till morning will be the dogs' ice speedway which has been in place since the snow that fell before Christmas.

 And to compound my woes, the radar on Underground shows snow all round about me except overhead.
