Last tuesday life was gloomy my footie  team were rubbish fans wanted managersacked my Corona virus was crap and not seen a snowflake since I was young I'm 120 next month dropped in here,loved the pictures and magic....my team won,vodka helped with the virus and it snowed....however my team lost again so I'm back looking for Scottish snow magic,stay safe up there

What a frustrating winter this is.

Overnight low of -5c, max today of 0.5c under classic Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ conditions and light winds.

Precipitation band has started to arrive and the thermometer reads 0c.

So ripe conditions for snow you'd think, nope, not for here as its raining.  Going to make for horrible driving conditions later if this keeps up as the ground is deep frozen.

Pretty dull and dismal day today, felt damp and uselessly cold.

Max temp was 2.8deg.C at 12:57 and min was 0.5deg.C at 05:58, current humidity 92%, wind between 0 and 8mph southwesterly, current pressure 1008.2hPa falling slowly, there's been 2.8mm of rain so far and the cloud cover has been 8/8 all day.

Tomorrow had better pull its socks up.

Evening all,

Mostly dull today with a little light rain at times. Currently 3.6c with a low overnight of 0.6c. Still no signs of a snowfall here this winter but I’ve not given up hope yet!  A cm to cover the ground is all I ask!

Moderate cold rain on now, just got to hope we don't get another frost tonight or there'll be early morning mayhem again.

More cheerily, I had an interesting walk along the beach this afternoon, sliding over icy patches that have hung on more several days now.

Right something for the ornithologists on here we have huge flocks of pigeons , crows and seagulls in every field. These would all be measured in thousands. Explanation? Pigeon numbers augmented by others from Scandinavia.Not so sure about the crows.but seagulls could also be fleeing the extreme cold over Scandinavian waters.

Witness the temperature in Lerwick /Baltasound  of  -5c  to -7c just now that is colder than the top of Cairngorm.

My feeling since the beginning of winter has been that February will be very cold and frosty and this is the direction from which it will come and with us on the  boundary it may come very suddenly with little chance of it being forecast.Nature seems to be reacting to this as well.

Well I was wrong and MetO were right, unsurprisingly. Its been snowing on and off for a bit here, and lying, but it's big heavy flakes by the looks of it so I'm assuming that height has made the difference if @Quinach is still getting rain. Temp is 0.1/-0.2C and has been around that for a few hours. That also means XC Weather was correct, but nowhere near the 5cm+ that was showing, a covering at best so far.

Had a bit of everything today - heavy rain, sleet and about fifty wet snowflakes! 

Still a couple of hours of precipitation for some of us - rain, sleet or snow? It’s hard to even care anymore!  

Next opportunity as we all know is Thursday!

Just cold rain here as expected. 2.1C. Did get a couple of reports of heavyish snow up in Highland Perthshire this evening but not even sleet here this time.

Just one word to describe today, crap. It started well enough, looking like the sun could break through or at worst, it would only be light cloud but no. It’s been baltic all day, even the dogs weren’t as keen to go out for long. Also, a lot of birds at the feeders today so maybe @Northernlightstheory could prove to be a good one.

Overnight low of -3.5, lifted to a high of 1.1c and hovering around 0.5c since around 5pm. Current DP is -0.5c. Radar showing showers close by but all fizzling out before reaching Banchory tho we had some drizzly stuff earlier this evening. Suppose I just need to remain patient and keep practicing crossing my fingers on my dodgy hand (in the name of snow physio of course).

Yep, altitude king as ever.

Temperature this evening ranged from 0c to 0.2c but there was never any sign of any sleet let alone snow.  About 2mm of rain and its now quite misty outside and still 0.1c.

As expected, lethal underfoot with black ice everywhere.

@Northernlights - round here what has been curious is the absence of any geese the last couple of weeks.  To make up for that the Bramblings that I commented on recently are definitely getting more abundant with a small flock attacking the feeder this morning.  Gorgeous birds really and quite spectacular when you see them in a group.  They ignore completely the mixed seeds and focus only on the sunflower seeds but very nervous so difficult to photograph thanks to the Sparrowhawk which has realised there is now a fast food takeaway in the garden.  Also got large flocks of goldfinches which is unusual as well.  Alas no Waxwings, which seems to be a national phenomena - https://twitter.com/waxwingsuk?lang=en

 @QuinachLarge flocks of geese have largely disappeared from the fields here too although there are still small groups of up to 20 landing in the fields.They along with the Scandinavian woodcock may well have gone further southwest in Scotland as its now fairly cold up here Neighbour with very modern house with ground sourced heat pump  and sensitive temperature recording devices has said that the average  air temperature for this  month of January so far is 3c which is pretty chilly. Six stunted  snowdrops flowering now next to wall ofour  house now very late compared to last few years.
