Now it’s light I can see that the snow line here is about 3 miles inland and above around 80/100m. So pretty much in line with the forecast (unfortunately) and similar to the situation a couple of weeks back. ‘Immediate coast’ strikes again. 

@Kirkcaldy Weather I’m afraid it’s rain again. 2.1c here.

The snow has now finished what a couple of days it has been though definitely the best since the BFTE

Well we're not at Currie / Straiton resort level , but I wasn't really expecting anything from this at all before last night.

Wind has started to really pick up in the last 20mins or so and with that a slight drop in temperature to c.1.3c.

That is allowing the rain to now include some hints of snow, this making it easy to see that the precipitation is falling at a 45degree angle (home schooling exercise on geometry).

Higher routes like Dava Moor or Cabrach will be getting a full blizzard I suspect.

Edit: Then again, maybe not - astonishing really that there is barely a hint of any snow at the Glens of Foudland.  As others note, there is something peculiar about the NE climate these days.

 

Edit Edit => "falling at a 45degree angle" - now one of the kids informs me that in fact it's falling at a angle of 135 degrees to vertical which is apparently more correct way to describe it compared to 45 degree to horizontal.  Now getting confused as never touched this stuff for decades.  Gees those teachers a payrise...

Facebook memories teasing that I had 22cm on the ground this time 3 years ago!!

Had a lot of snow that winter, even before the BFTE, and always just seemed to be in the sweet spot.

Thought i saw a splodge of snaw on my skylight just now but nope it was bird poop   just very heavy rain and blowing a gale. I see rumblings of a BFTE on the model thread.. im going back to the 2018 thread to see what happened to Ellon that week....

BFTE was due before Christmas, I wouldn't get excited.... 

 

A slushy dusting this morning which has all but melted already. The showers over the next few days seem to have downgraded from what I can see but will keep an eye on it  Oh and good to see all the snow photos this morning!

Wet snow still falling but even the hills I can currently see through the snow are struggling to turn white. Temperature has pretty much flatlined at 1.0/0.5C and although there is a breeze at times it's not what I would call windy. I suppose we could call this a 5th(?) snow fall of the Winter (excluding dustings) but it's certainly not the best one.

Quite surprised to see reports of snow from near Aberdeen. Just sleety rain here at 150m on the North side of Bennachie. Wind getting up now but nothing crazy.

Also if anyone wants a good example of what me, @LomondSnowstorm and a few fellow fifers have mentioned about precip from the north and why we don’t get our hopes up just run the radar back over the last hour or so, weakens over Fife and now intensifying after moving into Edinburgh
