WELL, WELL!! This has been a pleasant surprise. Roads were a nightmare around Paisley/Johnstone this morning when I was dropping the wee one off to grandparents. The other being with us for home-schooling so I'll having snowball fights with him at lunch time  Appears as though the council haven't really bothered to grit the roads?!

Looks to me from the radar that there is plenty more to come from this yet today as precipitation keeps intensifying off the west coast as it moves around and inland. Just as it appears we may be coming to the finale, it intensifies again and looks like it is beginning to stall/circulate around the whole central belt!

 

So much for working today.....

Got a bit over excited for this event, transpired into sleety wet snow and temp 1.1°  Glassgow East..

We've done not bad. Started with noisy sleet lunchtime yesterday, it's been snowing since. Not as dry and powdery as it was over New Year, it's 'snowman' snow! We've had 2 days since Dec 28 without a snowy/icy covering.

Going by the lack of posts on the model forum here and on the other side, I suspect the outlook for next week is not as cold as they thought!

It was pouring down with rain at 1am when I arrived home at work. Yet another surprise snowfall. Happy days

Much like @Stormeh went to bed around 2ish and was miserable outside - all hope lost. Woke up this morning from my manager texting to make sure all our buildings have been opened, was like "Eh?". Opened blinds and aye knew what he meant right away. Main roads in Glasgow gridlocked around half 8 this morning. Working from home now, was meant to head into office today - result!

I'm hoping to move back up to the highlands at some point this year, seeing all this snow makes me wish we'd done it last year!

Pretty much eased off here now. Very light. Extra half centimetre by March 2022 kind of stuff. Looks great though and a nice surprise. Really has been a good run this winter so far.

Wish that I was still living  up near Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire at times like this. Here are the roads out from there earlier this morning including the main low road to the A9. The last one is towards Crieff at Amulree.

As the front moves in like the recent snowfalls, temperatures will be near 0, the 850hpa temperature being only around -1/-2 and no 528 dam also makes me wary but maybe it will be evaporative cooling causing the snow tbh it’s that tricky I’m not sure but looks like it will be freezing rain then as it moves further east gradually turning to snow (could be back to rain on the back edge) 

dewpoints fast becoming a fest but it’s handy in a way just look at the dewpoint see it’s above zero and it stops a check out the window , good to see others getting a lovely snowy surprise and I’m already becoming confident Saturday will be another lot of pish here a bit more marginal than currently so I will probably have a little break from looking at each and every model run, if it’s anything other than a half hearted high ground event I’ll try do a summary but not seeing anything more than that currently.

Bit soggy underfoot here this morning.   Very fine drizzle.   So many different outcomes around the country.

About half an inch on the ground here, more on the trees so it must have been heavy overnight but took a while to start accumulating.

0.7/0.6C here and light rain. A definite snow line appearing a bit further up the hill though so I'm assuming the dog walk route will be even whiter again.

Even down near sea level in Glasgow it’s snowing. Height not really much a factor other than totals. Still got light snow here.

Noticed that throughout yesterday my phone app predicted several hours of snow for today, but all the models said rain. Netweather, BBC, met office forecasts all said rain too.
