Been back and forth between wetter snaw, graupel and heavy stuff,

Now it's the desired 'silent snaw'.

Ye ken; the snaw that disnae make any noise, but just faws steadily and silently.

 

GFS decent. The downward trend in T's continues. OP a bit of a warmer outlier. Course if you get loads ae snaw, that modifies the weather in a way models can't predict far out. Spain is an example. The unusual snaw in a quite arid inland area caused some really low T's due to reflection of the suns warmth.

They've realised they're only allowed outside one at at time. The guy who goes to check the rain gauge got lost and hasn't come back and they're arguing about whether going out to find him is a reasonable excuse for another person to be outside.  Meanwhile the IT guy has had to go into self isolation cos his girlfriend has covid and the spares for the broken anemometer are stuck in customs due to Brexit.  The canteen lady has gone vegan for January and is refusing to serve anything other than said food; the sandwiches they were relying on from Holland have been binned at customs and the remaining staff are shivering, starving and unlikely to last till the next fabled SSW. Oh, it happened, no lemon.

Aye walked home in it from work. Felt like rain but all the pavements slushing up. I guess at the end of the day it is some kind of freezing rain event. Going to be horrific tomorrow if it clears later and freezes up.

I feel quite grumpy now. It's my birthday tomorrow, there's an amber snow warning, amber none of this yellow rubbish. Stuff has been falling from the sky all day, yet when I look outside it's like someone's sucked all the juice out of a slush puppy then chucked it over my car. 

Pleased for those of you with snow though. Going off for a sulk upstairs (as we're also doing dry January so can't even drown my sorrows).

Really enjoy my visits to this forum,the pictures are fantastic,also a reminder of days when it snowed further South,notice even places in Scotland dont always get  the snow,but hopefully they will join in soon,more snow equals more pictures,so we all win,stay safe all

Not a jot here in East Lothian , feel like a broken record today will it ever snow ? Waiting by the lamppost viewing window just in case .

That’s the precipitation just reached Pittenweem now: raining, 2.2c/0.2c

For those in the amber warning area and yet to see snow, the warning stretches until 10am tomorrow morning and specifically mentions that precipitation will turn increasingly to snow at lower levels this evening.

As much as I'd like it to change to snow I'd be equally happy with whatever this is that's falling to stop

Moderate rain at 1.9C here now.  No idea about the dp but probably not much lower in this pish.

You can see why the sweet spots are more central or higher ground, the tilt on the front from the west and the easterly wind bringing in warmer air from the North Sea, eventually the radar picked up some of the freezing rain people have been seeing.

Thought I heard thunder outside......but turned out to be eight cows that had escaped the barn and were running around the farm. I can therefore confirm yes, it is snowing  About 1cm on the ground....which was extremely useful for working out where said coos had gone
