If it’s rain we’ll ask the front to stick there for a bit lol

And back to rain! Good luck to anyone forecasting this mess. Could snow anywhere, everywhere or nowhere tonight

None of your wintry nonsense here. Good old-fashioned rain in the forecast, no doubt, no dashed expectations

Is it possible that the Met Office share the same crayons as No.10?

Dryazabone here!

This morning was interesting what with freezing rain and all - I even saw a dug going on its bahoochie on the street outside my house. Met Office is showing my area being in the yellow warning zone for snow and ice but the forecast for here is rain throughout the coming days, and nights. Not quite sure what to make of that. The BBC reckons we'll get a couple of hours of sleet tomorrow morning then back to rain.

Temperature 2.2deg.C up from -1.2deg.C at midnight, humidity is 94%, wind is 1 to 2mph northerly, pressure is 1017.5hPa falling slowly, it's currently raining lightly with 5.2mm having fallen today, cloud cover is 8/8 and the dew point is 1deg.C.

Early finish at work today. On the commute back home I counted eight snowploughs and gritters spreading salt from Banchory over to Echt then out to Alford. Dry and cloudy with temperature around 0C.

It's grey, and been raining here, then a little bit of graupel. Then this odd stuff which appears to be transparent / translucent hail? Never seen anything like it before, close up it looks like plastic micro-bead stuff. Very odd?? Anyone got any ideas  - is it a freezing rain type?

Ice Pellets?

Ice pellets are a type of solid precipitation that have a diameter of less than 5mm. They are spherical or irregular and rarely conical.

Snowing lightly here in luncarty and dunkeld and Aberfeldy colleagues inform me.

Roads forecast for tonight

Cold this afternoon with some patchy rain, sleet and snow spreading from the southwest, leading to ice in places with RSTs still below zero. This evening and tonight will be cloudy with outbreaks of sleet and snow, perhaps also with some rain mixed in at lower levels (freezing rain possible). Some of the snow is expected to become heavy at times with some heavy falls on high ground before the night is over, but some significant accumulations across some lower levels too. RSTs below zero so very icy. Further sleet and snow tomorrow morning, the snow perhaps turning back to rain on some low ground in the east. A very complex snow situation tonight but indications are some high roads above 200m may get 10-20cm through the period whilst low roads pick up between 3 and 10cm. .. Minimum overnight RST MS -1.6 degrees

Just had first proper snow spell here, dropped a cm or so.

Fascinating day of weather watching - looking electronically everything 50:50 rain:snow, no one on here any idea of what would fall.

Good old fashioned look out the window - fail. Lots of graupel seemingly falling and bouncing on dry surface but resulting in a layer of icy slush that never got any thicker. Had to actually open door and go outside to experience what was coming down - still don't really know.

Here's hoping for more proper stuff tonight for all.

Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ in full swing here, though there were some brighter periods first thing.

Calm conditions and frost still surviving in the more sheltered parts of the garden.

A bit milder than yesterday, currently 2.9c after a overnight low of -1c.

Thought I would peruse the model discussions on this and the other site over lunch.  Bad idea, wish there was a Vulcan translator filter to remove all the emotion and distill it down to facts!

It''ll be back to all joy and happiness, at least for a few hours....

Aye, permagloom, not that it mattered too much as I sat on my PC only occasionally glancing out of the window. The dog walk at 3:30pm had a real cold, damp feeling to it thugh, but further up the hill the trees are hanging into their white coats so it shows that there's not been much of a thaw up there at all.

On the turn here again. Be pushing it labelling it anything other than sleety pish! A layer of slush building.
