Scotland/Alba weather discussion - Jan 2021 onwards

What will today bring? One thing I can say with certainty is that home school tantrums are nailed on here! Probably a better event than anything last March and April threw at us! Took at look at the charts, timings and schoolwork forecasts last night! Stonkers! We even printed them to show the kids! Work incoming this morning, stalling around 11am as usual. A recipe for chaos!

Freezing rain here too. Even the drizzle was freezing in impact on the ground and creating a skating rink.

EDIT going into the lab today to set up some stuff as I think tomorrow's off the cards. Could be a fun drive hame.

Just started here too. Tinkle tinkle as it falls into the trees and is a wee bit surreal. If I look east I can see the edge of the cloud Peebles way with the sun slowly coming up. Currently -1.1°C and with a low earlier of -3.0°C it's my twenty seventh air frost.

Morning all! Current temp 3c, cloudy with light breeze. Glorious sunrise, but as usual I didn't have my camera to hand! Ah well, red sky in morning etc, etc. It's going to be a rubbish day weather wise here, so hope you all get buckets o' snaw! No need for me to look out my newly purchased snaw shovel yet!

Agree. Nice wintry looking sky this morning though as the cloud spreads in. -1.5C now.
Some automated forecast from the Met tho.  Unfortunately it is not for me but passed on by a 'friend' from my home town in Perthshire.

I can't ever recall having experienced freezing rain before.  Would like to hear it though.

4 gritter convoy just passed the front window from the gritting station down the road a bit.  (Something's up!)

We had a memorable event in Fife on 15th December 2018. The only time I can remember it happening actually, and yeah there was just this really odd noise outside, a kind of popping sound against the windows. It left a 2mm glaze on absolutely everything, even the outside walls of the house. Couldn't get into my car!

It does seem that around the 20th January we get the Beast from the east.

It usually lasts a few Weeks so my Birthday is looking good for acrosss the UK

Rain. Not unexpected. Very icy underfoot.

Watching the 6Z GFS come in. Increasingly concerned about freezing rain. Big time inversion aloft with below 0 temps at 925mb and above 0 at 850. Only saving grace is the timing (late afternoon) means that surface temps will be in the 1-3 degree range, which may mitigate some of the freezing rain threat. However, any areas that are sheltered or slightly elevated (and therefore will have surface temps close to 0) are at risk!

Yeah, I think the freezing rain threat is being a bit underplayed. Could make for some really hazardous travel this afternoon.

Appears to be RAINING on the Leadhills webcam at 400m - I was sure that would be all white at the moment

Yes it appears to be a bit of freezing rain in Glasgow. It’s light but pavements not gritted have got worse since rain started with people walking on roads.
