As has been mentioned by others there's the potential for the milder interlude to not last that long! Some charts suggesting Monday's rain could turn to snow on the backedge. Temps struggling on Tuesday to low single digits and the Met have snow for my location on Wed!

Obviously this will all change

It could be Stob Binnein and Ben More.  Certainly one of the Munros near Crianlarich.

Chilly! I've just noticed a - 10.3c reading on the outskirts of Kilmarnock which is very cold for there. A warm - 8c here after a blue sky day with snow on the ground.

Um.....Hallå/Hallo/Hej/??? Hi there Scandinavian people!? just wondering where the Scottish weather thread went??  awesome reports/pictures today 

Sitting at -11c and maxing at -7.5c after a start at 10 below so a proper winter’s feel today. My partner travelled north with work and took these of some frozen sea

Still early days for winter, so fingers crossed for more days like today. Great stuff

@Stormeh The last photo is spectacular. Is that the Belgray Reservoir? If so I pass through there on the motorbike and never stop. I'm usually heading for the backroad between Neilston & Stewarton. That road is a rollecoaster & so much fun once you get to know it.

Just dived in from SE thread to look enviously at all the snow pictures and that one is stunningI have just seen my first flakes of snow so far this winter but not enough even for a dusting but 5 miles from me on north downs they received a few cm that is still lying today.although not as Baltic as up there even we have only had daily Max’s of 2-3 degrees last 3-4 days which is pretty chilly for us southerners
 

enjoy the snow and think you will be getting a fair few top ups in the next few weeks if the LRFs are to be believed

It certainly is yes

There are many nice areas to walk around the dams. It looks amazing just now with it all frozen over with the snow on top. The last time this happened was back in 2010.

Evening interrupted by the temperature alarm going off in the greenhouse (try to keep it frost free) - it's been a year or two since that's been triggered.

Cue dash outside to lay on more heating, just as well there are no neighbours watching wondering what that idiot was doing rummaging around in the snow in their pyjamas.

Definitely going to be the coldest night of the winter so far; -5.7c and dropping.

The daytime high here was -0.3C...but annoyingly we weren't subzero at midnight, so 0.5C was the daily high and we didn't really scrape an ice day Low of -2.5C up here but as usual much colder down off the hill in Kinross-shire. I take car info with a bucket of salt but definitely on the cold side at 6pm

An ice day today and now down to (a rather mild) -4C.  I was surprised when I went for my walk that there was as little snow inland here as in the garden.

Elderly cats have started micturating indoors which is a sure sign of the cold.

[A Winter's Tale]

Some wonderful pictures of what was a perfect winter’s day. Cloudless skies, no wind, temperatures barely above freezing and dropping like a stone after sunset, and a covering of sparkling snow. There’s been a lot of crisp winter sunshine and overnight frosts over the last couple of weeks but it’s amazing what a difference an inch or two of snow can make to the scenery - some of the photos look alpine. It’s just a shame the snow came at the end of this cold spell. 

Cold spells come in different varieties and this cold spell has been notable for the duration - the longest in 7 years -and probably the sunshine as well. Temperatures haven’t been remarkable with 1C being the lowest maximum at Glasgow airport though there have been some cold nights with -9C tonight the joint coldest since 2010. It was quite frustrating here for snow with it being dry most of the time and about half of the precipitation falling as  rain. The snowfall the other night was better than expected - 4.5cm the most since the second easterly of March 2018. It seems quite a lot of Scotland has seen some snow settling at times. 

A decent cold spell and a decent first half of winter - quite similar to 08/09 and 17/18 - and much better than most of the last 8 years of so. Hopefully the SSW delivers and we end up with a more significant cold spell in the coming weeks. In recent decades there have not been many prolonged or potent periods of winter weather in the second half of winter so I think we’re overdue some proper cold and snow in late January and into February.

Enjoyed looking through everyone's photos this evening. A belated contribution to the Friday photo show from me! (taken mid-morning).  The thin covering of fresh, crunchy snow was a vast improvement on the ice-glazed paths/skating rinks of recent days.

Another ice day, and temperatures nudging -8C even here in urban Lanarkshire so far tonight.  Had to scrape the inside of the car windscreen this evening

1am obs -10.2C at Eskdalemuir this is exceptional cold there with clear skies expected through night will be fun to see how low it goes! -9°C at Glasgow Airport arguably even more impressive. Coldest temps since 2010 in quite a number of places.
