I overestimated a bit earlier, 3-4cm on the driveway and cars, but still the second deepest fall of the winter after New Years Eve. Currently -2.5C and sunny.

Morning all

Lovely pictures - incredible stuff really as once again the Met Office are left with egg on their faces.

Non forecast decent depths of snow through the Glasgow area for example and further SW - noticed they issued sneaky warnings in the early hours of the morning. 
I have certainly learned more than ever just to keep an eye on the radar - all about nowcasting on the day when snowfall is concerned! 

With regards to keeping an eye on the radar overnight...wee triangle is my location...

00:00 and 01:00 earlier this morning.

 

The Met Office battleground outlook is starting to show in the models - next week for example! Higher ground of the North and North East favoured at this stage.

All subject to change at this range and the slightest tweaks could mean lots of snowfall or lots of rainfall.

Aye, a series of light falls here and I've 2-3 cms of frozen mush and fairy dust. -2 C and sunny.

Very picture-sque. Nice weather tae be working from hame.

ECM 00Z has quite the beast-atlantic battle; this has been building for a wee while now. Potential for frontal snaw fests.

Quite incredible temp drop so far this morning as the cloud cover lifted. Edinburgh Airport for example went from 0c at 6am to -5c at 9am!! Not often that happens!

Well I'm buggered if I am going to 'bow to the north' for what can only be described as my Pantomime exchange with Kirkcaldy Weather of "Oh no it isn't"/"Oh yes it is" one-up-man-ship last night!  To be fair, he called correctly as it was indeed snowing at the time I started typing to concede, but was off before I had finished!!   That was it for here as my not even a cm is proof enough in all its glory!

So, where is he anyway?  Hiding under his duvet I'll bet!! ... Creep!!!

Cold though this morning at -2.2/-4.1 and a cold breeze.

Light to moderate snow for a couple of hrs last night but it only added another 1cm. Looks like we missed the best of it in North Lanarkshire but there's still snow on the ground for day 11 now, best run since 2012.

Doctormog was quite correct.  Woke to find a couple of cm’s had fallen  overnight.  Beautiful blue sky and bitterly cold.  Perfect for a wee walk on the beach.

  love all the pics of the snow yes I am very jealous but kept thinking I was in a completely different country compared to @101_North oh wait I’m only 40 mins away   dewpoints teasing me dropped to -4.1 overnight and still on -2.8 hope I can join in with the next snowfall chance.

That's one of them euphemisms, in't it? Euphemism for one of them perverted practices you lot get up to in the kinky kingdom of Fife.

Temperature now up to -0.7deg.C and the dew point has risen to -3deg.C but the sky is cloudless so I think we could be finished with snaw for a bit.

Last nights Met O outlook appears to reduce the milder interlude and increase snow chances with Southerly tracking systems in the further outlook. Here cold, bright and frosty today.

Most likely unsettled with rain and hill snow spreading north and east on Wednesday. Drier conditions following later in the week but with a chance of further spells of rain arriving from the west. Mild in the south and west, and colder further north and east. Into the following week, rather unsettled conditions with spells of rain and perhaps strong winds will cross the UK at times. The heaviest and most prolonged periods of rainfall are more likely in the south and west. Drier and more settled conditions are more likely in the north and east. Temperatures are uncertain with colder weather more likely in the north and east and milder conditions in the south and west. However, there is a chance of cold spells for all areas.

Confidence for this period is low, though there is a signal for weaker than average westerly winds with Atlantic systems likely to track further south than normal. Therefore, for the north of the UK it is expected to be drier than normal with temperatures around average to a little below. Further south there is an increased chance of unsettled conditions, with above average precipitation and with temperatures slightly above average. Through this period there is a greater than average chance of cold spells across the UK with the associated risk of wintry hazards. There is potential at times for significant snowfall on the boundary between milder and colder air masses, with greatest risk across central and northern areas.
