Making good progress in terms of the low clearance also in the last hour. The combination of this continuining and the lower thicknesses arriving in the next couple of hours should mean things continue to pep up in our neck of the woods. There's definitely still scope for plenty of us to get a covering overnight.

This seems to happen quite often , sure it did in 2018 as well, showers go either side, I’m sure its to do with the river Tyne or am i over thinking it

It happens so often that it can't be by chance.  Must be a scientific reason ?‍♂️

Just back with the dogs, and I’ll be honest, it’s nippy, but just general winter nippy - there’s nothing ‘beast’ about it.

Ground isn’t frozen yet, and still got graupel falling from the sky.

Well what a difference some time out does even if its for an hour.  Radar is springing back to life now.  Here's to what is looking up again!

And on another note the street is turning white now...

light dusting here, been away watching TV with the missus (some Danish series called the investigation about a True story about a submarine murder - pretty grim) so been catching up - radar does look a bit better - light hail falling currently there is still hope

just as I posted this the hail turned heavier and larger

To my eye the snow machine is switched on now.  Might not be on a high setting yet but it's definitely rumbling now.

Is the submarine thing about that journalist who was murdered on one?

Aye - it was alright for a subtitled series - don't want to spoil it for anybody who might be watching it

Absolutely nothing here. Really hoping for something over night but looking at radar seems to be either side of here.

That big lump towards Hull looks brilliant. Shame we live in the North East lol.

Saying that it does look like moving Northwards.

I'm absolutely convinced now that deeper convection has kicked off up this way.

Hope you’re right. Saw your picture of the street turning white so went to check hoping mine would be the same. Not a drop haha.

Looking at the Netweather radar animation the precipitation is showing  more intensity, I think I'll watch for an hour or so more - I can't help myself, I might have a small whisky whilst I radar/lamp watch

Yes -1 degrees here and constant light snow - white but not amounting to anything. Interestingly blowing down the road like dust. Bed-time - see what tomorrow brings. There is a phrase "too cold for snow" which of course is rubbish...but in UK it can have an element of truth to it as our cold air is usually dry?

Popped outside to for a quick gander, it doesn't feel that cold imho (although it could be the alcohol tbf) nothing on the ground just a few icy pellets on top of my car, all rather disappointing considering the  hype.

Just having a quite heavy polystyrene shower at the moment in Cramlington which is turning everything white

Temp 0.6 Dew -1.6

Hail/graupel/snow/polystyrene(canny funny) is intensifying - it seems to have coincided with the lack of wind here?

John Hammond mentioned in the weather video it is down to the air sinking next to where air rises(so where the showers are) so it creates a dry line, then a shower line, dry line and so on. This can happen in easterlies and it can be a bit of a misconception that it's going to be shower after shower all day and night. It's why when I lived in the NE. I preferred Northerlies, guaranteed convection, proper big snowflakes and if cold enough, it can accumulate quickly.

Just to note on the models for this spell of weather, the ESE shown for Tuesday has now gone, its back to a easterly and ENE'ly, so Tuesday could be more convective in the classic way hopefully. Still think Monday will be more sunshine and showers also hopefully.
