Was snowing quite heavily here in the early hours of this morning, but it really struggled to settle due to wet ground etc.

A few more snow and hail showers through the day today which gave a temporay light covering at times, but as Damian has noted above, looks to be a good chance of a covering of snow overnight and into tomorrow morning with a nice packet of showers heading for the region from the North-East.

Looking good for the whole region from around 2100hrs onwards. Some beefy showers heading our way. I'm expecting a covering for most by the morning.

I'll be closely watching how much convection develops in the next few hours, and those pink pixels on the rain radar over NE England.. hoping we might catch a few snow showers overnight.

Yikes, no posts for over a month. I've had my fill with this extended run of northerlies/easterlies and the subsequent nondescript coastal sludgefest.

The weather machine has been turned off around here since about March. Even today, the North Pennines rain shadow was doing its thing, creating a massive hole in the convection all day, South of Hexham, North of Darlington, East of Killhope cross, but not quite to the coast. Been a lovely dry day here in Durham.

Yeah, Durham was England's sunniest spot on Tuesday, with eight hours of sunshine.

No shortage of the wet stuff today , check the radar it’s just churning the clouds very slowly around and around. Only saving grace is that we need the rain.

Don't post much really but thought I'd share my thoughts.

I've not known a 6/9 months like it in terms of weather here in Teesside, absolutely nothing of interest has happened.  We had a very very poor winter in terms of snow/frost, very average spring, we are now in June and it's still a little nippy in the shade but no hot sunny spells as of yet.  The weather has become so boring nothing is happening!!

Sorry for the moan but hopefully we will get something of interest soon

I'm surprised we haven't all encamped on the moans thread. There was little discernible difference between winter and spring, and any decent spells of weather have been limited to a couple of hours here and there.

Subdued temps, far more murk than sunshine, and not much in the way of rain.  The lack of posts tells the story.

Hi all, thought I'd try to pop back onto the forum a bit more after being largely absent for 10 or so years! Good to see some old names and some new ones too, although this particular part of the forum is a little quiet! It's no great surprise as the weather has been largely boring, no significant storm activity to speak of. I'm hoping that might change next week but there's a long way to go before the models firm up on any of that, but a nice round of overnight storms moving up the country at some point looks a possibility.

Hope you're all doing well and coping with the warmth. I'm looking forward to a few days of more comfortable temps from Wednesday.

Current temperature records around the north east.

Northumberland 32.6

Tyne and wear 33.0

Cumbria 33.3

County Durham 33.9

Looking very hot beginning of next week and some of these records could go

Where did you find those? I was trying last night and couldn't narrow it down beyond 'North East and East England' on the Met Office which wasn't much help. I did find elsewhere the Durham City record was 32.8 set in 2019.

The latest model output is insane and has 39C for County Durham, 37C up into Tyne and Wear. Even if that drops down a bit ,records look likely to be smashed! I just hope we get smashed by a proper thunderstorm on Tuesday night.

Expecting Met office to issue a red warning for parts of our region for Tuesday if not I’m struggling to see why not

There will be storms about but as ever they will be hit and miss. If we get anywhere near 40c will cause so many problems we simply ain’t used to that level of heat
