Been snowing for a hour or so here, not amounting to much on the ground though, tends to melt as it hits the wetter parts of the ground but adding to lying snow in parts.

It does give me the impression it is the beginning of the end but as I mentioned in my post on Tuesday I think we will be getting excited again from around the 23rd - time will tell.

Interesting watching the snow formation move through the region and quite unexpected

It certainly feels colder. I think it's picking up some heat from the house

Light snow reaching NCL now, might go out for a walk in it.

A late Feb cold spell would be amazing but I think I need to focus on work for the next week or so to make up for all the time spent radar watching this week 😂

The sky has darkened here and looks good for snow, the light snow is continued and getting slightly heavier

Looking at the GFS 6z for midday today, it does look like it's called the start of the East West battle about right. Be interesting if it does play out as models suggest.

Will be an interesting 48 hrs watching the battle commence

The winds should have changed by now, and we've got this as possibility if it moves up the coast.

Just looking at that, and the possible track takes it much further inland

Much bigger flakes & wind defo picking up. Could be some drifting over snow fields before the thaw

Snowing here now - one last goodbye from the snow for now. Still tomorrow for sledging. I don't think winter is completely over even though hit will be warmer next week.

Still the odd flake coing down and a noticeable increase in the wind.

A penetrating frost tonight followed by a bitterly cold day tomorrow.

Well a fitting end to a disappointing spell for the region I guess, one final tease before cruelly being snatched away at the last moment.

Something that has seemed very consistent over the past week has been the real difficulty in developing or sustaining convection in the circled area.

I'd love to know what the exact cause has been, could we have just been extremely unlucky with the wind direction (despite seemingly trying all of them at one point or another), has this area consistently been an area of divergence, or perhaps the sea temperature has played a part?

I don't remember this being a particular problem in other cold spells and hopefully it won't be in the future!

Well, another great snowday here. Piled it down last night, nice fresh top up. Took the little one sledging at dinner time a good 4" or so in places. We got back at 2pm, just as it started snowing again. Lasted until about 4pm, just light, but lying due to the existing and freezing temp. Can't see this thawing until mid next week with the predicted temps.
