Showers look more sporadic but beefier for those that catch them

It depends where you measure, about 4" where it's blown into a certain area, probably 2" on average. Nothing to write home about but better than nothing.

Looking at wind vectors they seem to be travelling in a very slight arc and poss south of me, DH9, CLS, Birtley

Can anyone tell me (again, this is a genuine question) what it is about the air mass/air flow that means this sort of organised shower system is currently barrelling in and towards Kent, where they are looking at another 20cm overnight, whereas here we haven't had anything like this?

Funnel effect when the wind comes from the right direction, you can see the bottleneck between Dover and Calais. The pressure is also lower down there as they're further from the centre of the high so more instability.

Lucky few up north from me catching the remaining snow showers.

Decent covering from these as they slow moving.

Still a good few to come aswell.

Nothing for me, bar a little flurry.

I’m hoping that’s a hit for me in Whitley Bay as most this afternoon were just a little north

Based on the preceding showers I’d say they’ll make landfall further north than that maybe?

Looks like need it to drop about 15-20miles south for Crook to be in the firing line of tonights showers.

These 2 beauts could be the final hurrah. Stunningly crisp night out there now.

I reckon newcastle will get these.

Just over 4 inches now and very powdery.

Its a shame the previous 3 days weren't like this one as the synoptics suggested but we learn a bit more with each cold spell.
