Wasn't expecting anything at all until about 3am but things appear to be getting going already. Still expect the north of the region to do well initially before this reaches all of us, so no need to despair Teessiders if the radar doesn't look great for us while everyone else are reporting heavy snow showers!

Yeah definitely the showers are definitely moving south east earlier than expected can only be a good thing

I still can't believe the difference between Durham/pity me and CLS. Nowt in Chester. That big shower over Newcastle just missing me but looks like there's more now aimed for CLS area. Hoping for a good night

They need to stop disintegrating first as they hit land

I watched the one that hit Newcastle on the radar and thought it was headed this way. Gutted ha, hopefully get some of these ones!

Snowing at Old Trafford...

Nick still waiting for his first non-graupel shower of the week. Just about sums this “Beast from the East” up.

Wait till you wake up in the morning

Nick send me another membership card please. Id rather poke me own eyes out than watch these showers totally disappear as they hit land in my area.  I mean I'm baffled as to what is causing this?!

....and breathe

Give it another hour the showers were not all that out too sea before hitting land anyway, the ones above them are fine

I'll try mate. The only saving grace really is they appear more beefier than last night so who knows. Maybe its just because the wind direction has changed and they need to get going properly again

It is but they disintegrate as they hit land in many areas. Its madness.

Just back from sainsburys, nipped out to do the shopping while it is quiet. Came out and the windscreen was covered. Did the lazy thing of using the windscreen wipers which smeared the snow and froze it. Doubled down on my stupid by using the washer thinking I had loads of anti freeze wash. Windscreen fully frozen so it's definitely cold enough.

Not much wind either so I think if a shower does come this way, it might deliver more than a millimetre or two. Not banking on it though.

Hes the same every year actually I think in March 2013 he was moaning that it was too cold and snowy for farmers for the spring

Up in Scotland it seems to bet he opposite.  Not much out at sea and loads constantly inland!

Hoping with the change in wind direction we might see a cover by dawn. Not much activity all day here, just the odd burst of snowflakes. Ground is frozen solid and makes walking a pleasant experience, with minimal ice about. Wet ground hard as a rock.

OK so I understand.. the showers are forming better around the Morpeth/Newc line.. will they form better further south as the night goes on?

And will the winds veer further to the NE or is that it?
