As Gary just said above I've just checked the Sat24.com and there's definite movement now across the North Sea.  This is what we've been waiting for....

Watching the sequence over and over again I don't think we are to far away now (admittedly it seems to be taking an age) but if you compare between 20:00 and 21:00 there is a large difference.

My guess is things will look different in the next couple of hours

The ECM precip chart for around now seems fairly accurate with the main action north of the border.

Lets hope its accurate for first thing in the morning as well.

It is frustrating seeing great synoptics and not having much to show for it,but don't send those sledges back to amazon just yet.

Well I spent the last week convincing my dad it was definitely happening, it was going to be proper snow. He’s spent today taking the mick out of me.
He’s just sent me this he wrote

Forum Guru on the net,
I still can’t get my sledge out yet.
You showed me charts and promised a beast,
But nothings coming from the East.

I told my family what you said,
And showed them maps with yellow and red.
But now they think I’ve lost my mind,
And send me gifs that are unkind.

I thought that you were in the know,
And that is why I paid for pro
But now I feel that I’ve been had
And have to face my smirking dad

So please have one last look for me
And say it’s coming from the sea.
So plot your models, let them go
And give me now, my bloody snow!

BBC have knocked the heavy snow back a hour now to midnight and then heavy again at 2am until tomorrow afternoon - I am thinking what is being said on here about this low disappearing much slower than anticipated could definitely the case.

Good things come to those who wait eh.

My mate NorthEastSnow, you have been very very patient, it is coming my friend.

It will happen Boro but yeah today has been a letdown for so many on this forum.

Just got to keep smiling, put the dummy back in, have a little kip and as old Captain Tom says, tomorrow is a good day.

I welcome all today's new members to my Club of Permanent Doom.

We don't have much fun; we don't hope for much; we don't do optimism.

That's it. There is no 'but'.

Badges sent in the post. But as they'll probably get lost, I wouldn't bother expecting them any time soon.

I think someone needs to reboot the radar servers and import the North East Snow Machine... someone must be able to do it?

Just lets start from scratch.

What i dont get is this low to the south stopping convection off NE coast yet this circled red is growing all the time and is south of us

The frustrating thing is that we’ve had on/off precipitation all day and it’s on going now but it’s too insignificant to lay!!! First time this winter everything was in our favour and it’s still *** up.

Thicknesses are lower due to their proximity to the low. We're literally stuck in the "not close enough but also not far enough away" zone at the minute. 2nd image shows the thickness dropping off our coast about 2am.

We're the same in Whickham. Whenever I mention people tend to say 'ah near the Metro Centre'. We are, however there's your choice of 3 huge hills to travel up to get here. We're closer in altitude to Stanley. My house is 175m ASL

Yes when I look across the valley to Whickham, Sunnyside etc you can often see the snow line above the metro centre, Dunston etc.

With there being so many hills around here there can be huge variations in snowcover over small areas.

Been snowing more or less all day here but very light and not amounting to much. Hoping it becomes heavier and more organised overnight.

Absolutely, let's be frank here. Today has been a huge disappointment, especially after all the hype.

Let's hope tomorrow is a better day

For NE England the Lake Effect showers are often limited in an easterly it's when the air is from NE to North it has much longer fetch over the sea but still enough angle of attack to come inland from the coast quite a way.
Tomorrow will be the best chance of more significant snow showers but again tending to form chains over one place and just flurries in others.

This seems to happen quite often , sure it did in 2018 as well, showers go either side, I’m sure its to do with the river Tyne or am i over thinking it
