Trying to keep the hope here.. although rather wishing I hadn’t told my 6 year old it was coming, must have been asked 100 times.

Fairly new to looking at radar, can anyone tell me what I’m looking for.. at the minute just looking at what’s over us at the moment.

There is southernly movement in the Scottish band of showers but maybe no more than 25 miles over past 2 hours, at that rate that unstable air would reach Northumberland in about 5 hours.

Apologies 10 hours not 5.

As the low pressure, now over NW France, moves away it will allow the unstable air to our north (currently circled in your pic) to move south and allow the north sea to create convective showers which will be pushed in on the easterly wind.

Edit: misread your post, seems your adding to my point.

It was an oversimplified picture for someone asking what to look at on the radar, all they needed to know was their looking for the same level of instability off the coast of NE England.

Those beefy showers in Scotland don't seem to be moving south anymore now looks like a straight easterly feed, the stuff to our east looks like it did this morning not much to it, infact to my east hardly anything at all

It’s not then exact showers we are focusing on it’s the conditions that where there to make them. The instability will come its a matter of time

Things must be really looking up for us tonight as Nick is bringing his humour.

Good one Nick, that is funny.

Not often you see all of the UK precip pink, plenty of showers making inroads on radar just now

Keeping an eye on the aligned shower activity which seems to be heading for Newcastle...

Indeed, that area seems to have pepped up significantly in the last hour. Hopefully a sign of increased instability and things get going for the region in the next couple of hours.

Been snowing lightly all day here in Gateshead near the QE hospital. Light covering on all surfaces that is blowing into small drifts in the wind.

Hoping the shower activity becomes more organised and intense tomorrow.

If I'm not mistaken I think we have streamers starting out in the north Sea. They are more likely into Northumberland atm. But hopefully some should start to get going further south in the more populated areas in a few hours.
