every time I have looked out today there has s been at least a few flakes floating about, -the wind is drying the ground now, so hopefully when these North sea snow showers continue to intensify it should lay,

What are your thoughts on any thundersnow? An easterly is usually a good for producing it. - would love to hear any instances of that over the coming days - once we get to the convection type of snow and not this polystyrene we have at the minute.

Thundersnow? I would be glad just to see some old fashion snow!

Been a bitter day here with snow flurries at times, temperature is now down to freezing with a thin layer of ice forming on the pond.

If it does snow tonight I won't have to worry about it settling.

Today reminds me of the easterly on 2nd Feb 2009, that was a Sunday as well and we had just like today snow flurries all day followed by 8cms overnight.

Let's hope the outcome is the same.

Anfy

Nothing really coming from these new shower formations currently hitting Northumberland coast.  Had a few pass over according to the radar but just light graupel, you wouldn't even know it was falling if not specifically look for it on the pavements.  Still early in the hunt though.

Still almost nothing here, temperature rising by a degree or so too. Looks like it will be tomorrow before anything remotely significant happens. BBC weather app overstating the cold and precipitation, met office app seems to be bang on. Has been that way all winter to be fair.

I think there is a bit of disappointment because we were promised (by a lot of so called pro especially in the main thread) something epic , memorable, a 5 day heavy snow event Canada style. So far 2 days have gone with absolutely nothing.

And yes still plenty of time and yes let's still keep our chins up,but as usually the over hyping in the main thread is ridiculous. My fault that i bought into it once again.

To be fair, its understandable there been excitement because its going to be a quite cold spell of weather with snowfall. Some do make the mistake and just assume cold air over warm sea means heavy snow showers, Ive always been wary about today and it could be more stratus cumulus because thicknesses did not look all that low which means the air is more stable. I still believe the air will get more unstable as thicknesses drop a bit more and we should hopefully see signs of that on the radar eventually.

Someone posted a fax chart this morning with a streamer over Teesside are there any updates?

I didn't see that but someone is going to get very lucky in our region tonight. My gut feeling for streamers just based on historical precedence would be somewhere in Northumberland (pretty much guaranteed) possibly co. Durham and an outside chance teesside. I just hope P-M is right in saying we should all get at least a few showers.

I still have a laugh when people on the main thread are looking ahead more then a week for the next or the continuation of the freeze (models do look good) whilst we are waiting for this one to start properly with regards to snow - mind you I still can't help taking a peak myself

Today has been painful waiting for the snow showers to intensify.

They are doing that now, evident over the past few hours...

Very tedious day and looks like the showers are still a good few hours away.

Those beefy showers in Scotland don't seem to be moving south anymore now looks like a straight easterly feed, the stuff to our east looks like it did this morning not much to it, infact to my east hardly anything at all

From past events, it's always seemed to me that a NE'ly feed is what we need. I can't see that for a few days.
