You can't control the models, you can't control the weather, guess what I can't control my excitement for this weekend either, T-46 & counting down I'm predicting sat 6pm for my 1st  report of snow falling - hope its earlier

Yes. I'm afraid so. The 'and I'll sort you out' element was implied - but in the context of an argument, saying I can find where you live is unlikely to be so that you can give the fella a handshake and offer to buy him a pint!

To be fair I used to like his input it was at times educational although he was a ramper. To say that is out of order though what a tw$t!!

Anyway onwards and upwards we have in the NE at least 5 days of very cold conditions at least. Streamers will set up at times and those who are lucky enough to be under them good luck to you but I am confident pretty much all of us will see decent snow on the ground for almost a week.

Is there a prize for the first area to have falling snow, an inch and a foot?

photographic evidence needed with that days photo.

What can I say, quite excited that my lawn may see more than 2 days of daylight since Christmas Eve.

The radar watching really will be exciting watching the streamers fire up and localised systems form out at sea. I know the breakdown had taken the fire out of the model thread but that really could be one to watch for those North of Midlands with persistent & blizzard like conditions.

What a week & possibly beyond we have. My poor lawn

Rdt,

I too am in YArm , it will be snow if we are at -10 uppers . My worry is will we be sheltered by the mountain range ne t to us and get little ppt.

it is too early to use the charts to see how much pot from Sunday onwards , but if max temps are 1 c all week then it will be frozen

A snapshot of the 12z ECM run for Tuesday seems to have the general idea.

Yes a more likely chart, most convection I feel will be through the region, longer sea fetch than further south.

Bring on the big snow !!!

Just out of interest, anybody have any idea what kind of temperatures we are looking at both night and day ?

Need to insulate my outside boiler condensor pipe if it is looking like ice days, been caught out twice with the BFTE over the years and the pipe freezing, boiler off !! Not good,  no hot water and heating when combined with a BFTE.

He's set up a new weather forum with some others i believe

You surprise me Steve has been a stalwart on Net Weather and he is greatly missed, I have never seen him post anything not related to the weather and I for one hope he returns SAP.

It will be a centimeter of slush all the way up Monkseaton Drive, you'll have to walk across to Shiremoor for it to settle as usual

Every run suggests EA is getting the best of it here. Should we be seeing the convection as being THAT underplayed? Could we be talking similar levels?

Think I might stick to the Swiss model for accumulations, they are experts in Snow after all, nothing to do with showing slightly greater totals.

Also, as a footnote streamers are quite difficult to predict and often form on the other side of the North Sea or in the middle, so radar watching with wind vectors on is a must and much comes down to now casting in these long fetch easterlies and still time for slight changes in direction cometh the hour

How much snow are we likely to see in CM?

It's difficult to predict where streamers will set up, plus effect of drifting but the GEM accumulation maybe reasonable amounts come Wednesday

1.6" in Durham by Wed would be pretty disappointing!

Yep, think you prob right. GFS & Swiss model has 8 inch lying by Wed with more coming through on Thursday.

The icon model which was quite accurate up here in 2018 has paltry amounts. Hoping it's not factoring streamers

Typical that Weardale Ski at St John's chapel is shut due to covid. It would of been excellent skiing this winter, and even better come the weekend and onwards. I've not seen Gav's video's for a while, but I do like them. He uses layman's terms and even I can understand them. I hopefully will be posting pictures from around the NE whilst at work. I'm 48 and feel like I'm 10 at the moment
