Good covering here now, looks to be around 2 inches.

Wow. I'm in Gilesgate Moor just up the road. Went for a half hour walk. Started in lovely big flakes, snow everywhere, maybe an inch. After 20 minutes, more sleety snow, and just wet on all pavements, with what had been there melted. If the temp/DP doesn't drop overnight, this is going to be a non event for most places under 100m.

What's all this about Saturday? I can't see anything on the models I'm looking at. No ppn at all.

A total disappointment here. Was just too wet and presuming it turned back to sleet as the temps rose again. Back upto 3c now.  Hope everyone who has snow enjoys it

The beast is back in fi on para. That's 4 out of the last 5 runs to have the beast in fi. And the one that didn't had a Greenland block instead. Obviously toying with high lat blocking

Turned to slush here with a lot of melt. Was nice to see it coming down heavy though last night.

Must have snowed heavy overnight, woke up at 1.30am and it was snowing, got about an inch on the ground in parts but looks like it is more sleet/rain now and the melt is happening.

Great to see though.

Reading the southern thread, I mean the model thread, looks like gem has heights into scandi too. I know people will say it's the gem but it's not a bad model nowadays and ECM has moved towards it a couple of times already this winter so something to keep an eye on

Para in fi would definitely be chilly and nothing would be marginal if this came off

Now this would be good for us but as always not likely to happen. Again there is 0% of snow on the ground this morning which was expected i suppose.

Even that little feature to come up the country on Saturday has now completely vanished.

Did someone say spring lol?

This was close to midnight. Mostly grey slush this morning, so must have turned back to rain at some point.

Plenty of snow here in Gateshead. Good covering still on grass and north facing pavements. I live near the QE hospital which is the highest point in Gateshead. I know there is not nearly as much lower down.

The pic was from just after 10:30pm.

This winter IMBY has been decent. Lots of days of falling snow and quite a few with lying snow.

Certainly been very marginal but I have a bit of height which has made the difference.
If we get a decent Feb/Mar and we see a cold spell of at least 5 days and a couple more snowy episodes I will be happy.

So far it’s certainly been better than most winters of the past ten years.

The flooding is insane in Redcar as probably everywhere but haven't seen it like this for years here....

Temps still around 3c. Sounds very windy out there still too. At least it's been a fully dry day here with sun all day. Next few days looks like little precipitation for the north east and plenty dry and bright weather. Frosty nights I'd imagine.

At the mid point stage, and yes so far decent compared to most winters since 10-11 at this stage any way. Still waiting for proper decent snowfall, one that sticks around for a few days. We've a few smatterings of a cm or two at best.

Also nothing notably cold so far, many nights just below freezing but nothing severe, and not an ice day.

Winter's back tends to break come mid feb, yes we can see very heavy snowfalls thereafter, but you start to need extra cold synoptics to deliver very cold weather - deep seated northerlies and easterlies - they do happen mind and late Feb/early March often an optimal time.

But a cold spell end Feb/early March feels very different to one late Jan/early Feb when we are still in the true depths of winter.

Upto 5c today. Nice and sunny but that wind is icy cold today. Hopefully early to mid February looking better for something continental but we shall see

Tbh really shows how bad it is nowadays that we consider this winter decent !

It’s only better than most than most recent winters but hang about this one is only half way through, wait until mid March before passing judgement.
