ECM 12Z looks crazy the amount of PPN its predicting over next 10 days -  image.thumb.png.e9518435040a6bf2bd92416522a6692e.png

But on the bright side I like these charts below, however wrong they could be..

Yes, happy birthday. Mine is two days after Christmas and my birthday in 1962 was a classic, at what was the start of the worst winter of the 20th century.

My son’s  the 27th December

Mmm not a good week coming up if you don't like rain. A waving frontal feature has the NW's name on it. Western upslopes look like receiving the heaviest rain, western Pennine catchments quite possibly will be worst hit. Also western parts of the Peak District.

We are out of the Amber warning area, but this could easily be extended to cover much of the Lake District. N and NW Wales also in the firing line, possibly more so than our region.

So far here in the Lake District we have been spared by and large any notable flooding this season, our luck may be about to run out.

Into Thursday and colder air will dig in from the north as the low deepens, could be some significant snowfall anywhere with a bit of height, and under heaviest precipitation evaporative cooling once again will come into play enabling snow down to relatively low levels - will be a nowcast as always.

Lots going on.

Today was an unusually quiet day, cloudy mainly, bit of brightness, light winds, and felt quite pleasant. I saw snowdrops for the first time this season, always a sign the winter is marching on, and I'm noting how well advanced the daffodils appear this year - all courtesy of the very mild conditions in November, and the milder spell in the run up to christmas. I'm surprised though how well they seem to have survived the cold of the last 3 weeks, ground often sub freezing for quite lengthy spells.

Happy birthday mate and a lesson learned is never expect snow on your birthday, even if it’s a winter one.

mine is just before Christmas but I can’t think of more than a handful in the 50+ I can actually remember where it has snowed.

I think it did on mine about 8 years ago didn’t amount to much but was nice to see

Highly unlikely to snow on my Birthday (25 June) but might get a hail storm from a good thunderstorm.

Took advantage of the still dry day today to get my touring and the wifes Racing Jazz washed and waxed before it starts to lash it down sideways, by the sounds of it, Tuesday onwards

It's been 6C and very calm today for a change

Gratuitous  final picture haha

I’m old enough to remember that happening.

We had a bit of snow in Bacup that day as well but it didn’t take long before better weather arrived and summer 1975 turned out to be pretty decent although it would always be the poor relation to the one that followed.

Our Mad thread friends like a good southerly correction but would they be as keen when it’s six inches of rain that they are praying for.

anyone who wants it is more than welcome though.

The 4-5" of rain forecast between Monday evening and wednesday evening would be an awful lot in snow terms.

Roughly 120mm x 8mm of snow per 1mm of rain = 960mm Snow.

hopefully though , by the time it shifts our way it will have turned to snow, with the cold air coming with it

It would only be a bit of a flurry in Japan.

The NetWX-MR is also showing potential for snow from wed 21.00 - sun 12.00  , all looks good at moment with each update getting better, just hope they don't crash our dreams last minute

I'll just keep my expectations to the liquid state for the time being. That in itself could cause a lot of problems before it freezes.

Has anyone added up the total amount in the continuous "rain event" in Netweather's forecast, from late Monday to early Thurs?  I make ours to be 96.35mm.  That's a "bit wet" even by NW standards.   Surely worthy of a named storm, even if we have to name it ourselves.   Perhaps the problem is that there's more than one low pressure in the airtstream.   Twins or even triplets all holding hands.

I am in the yellow weather warning area but as we are near the coast we never get the worst of it.  Definitely no chance of snow on my birthday 12th August I will be in the low 50 's next time.

The nearby villages have been getting a bit of flooding during the heavy rain due to house building and the changes due to a new nature reserve.

Take care everyone

Well had a weird birthday yesterday in lock down had a takeaway and few jars thought it was going to snow which would of been a bonus but hey ho rain and wind but the last bit was probably due to the amount of broth and peas that I ate the day before

Happy birthday

Well. One thing for certain it’s not going to be too much of a dull chart week.
