The rain had cleared through a couple of hours ago or so here and I was expecting a milder feel, but to my surprise it is still pretty raw outside. As suggested above, it seems the ppn is way ahead of the milder sector.

I've just been outside and to me it feels colder than it did when I first went outside earlier around 7am. Is just wet here btw, was a bit of slush around at 7am but is all gone now.

Well T850’s are about as warm as they’re going to get at 2°C and actually start to drop again slightly over the next few hours along with the T500’s.  This is what gives us the steep lapse-rates for this afternoon’s possible convection. The warm air lower down though has not reached us yet. This makes sense as the warmest air rises and rides over the top of the cold air in front of it.

It’s turned to freezing rain here now, IMO the worst kind of winter weather and that is solid ice on the part of the conservatory that faces east.

Going to feel positively tropical this afternoon with  temps upto 10° here and possible thundery showers. A little taste of summer.

I was looking at a jetstream chart the other day and the forecast chart for Thursday was crazy because it had the (northern) subtropical jet and polar jet actually meeting up. No wonder there has been epic thunderstorms over Spain in the past week.

Glad I didn't stay up, rain most of the night got outa bed at 6am to see snow falling but struggling to settle. We got a dusting then this quickly melted to leave a slushy mess. Rubbish really! i hope we all get some actual snow and it sticks around for a day!

Woke up to the most snow that we've had this winter, up here near the Church Inn, Uppermill. Roads are treacherous.

ECM  for Sat Eve, again too far out at this stage but pretty sure showers would get right across to the west especially if they merge together.

When the great North West Blizzard does come it will be all the more sweeter for having had to suffer a winter of looking into the Midlands and Yorkshire threads.

Nearly 6 inches in some parts over there. Don't look at New York cross the pond though - 19in in some part.

Horrendous stuff - fell through a warm sector once froze all the doors solid.

Anyway - useless snow chart for the Easterly  - some serious toy throwing on Sunday for the SE but at least our barren wasteland will be dry Will it have the strength to climb over the big hill?

Surprise covering at home this morning.  Was turning to a bit of a slushy mess as i left for work.

Highways were still ploughing the outside lane of the M6 between Preston and Garstang.  Snow cleared around the Galgate area and picked up again N of Lancaster.  Raining here atm near Carnforth.

Looking forward to some cold dry days and nights over the next few days once the winds turn to the East.

6th day with snow this winter here.  More than all of the last 3 combined.

Was up at 05:30 - Rain as per.

Then missus  let the Terriers out to a Blizzard - so yes!

Interesting slushy drive to Mellor - a few handbrake turns in the compound.

Yes, big problems in parts of Yorkshire according to the BBC. Just off for my first Covid 'jab', at least the absence of snow here in the south of the NW region means that the appointments are still on, unlike Ripon and Harrogate.

GFS still throwing a right spanner in the works and going against all models for a prolonged cold spell.

Awful chart!
