Moderate snow at present, and can confirm we are having our heaviest single fall of snow thus far this season, 4cms only, but better than the 1cm falls we've had.

It is very wet snow  with a temp of 0.8 degrees.

Looks like we have about an hour or two at most left on this band, then a clearance and a slow thaw as the rest of the day will be cloudy and temps only slowly climbing to about 3 degrees by evening, later this eve and overnight rain on low ground, snow on high.

Heavy dumping of NO in Warrington, expecting some more in the next week.

Actually, to be fair there was sleet for a couple of hours - though more rain than snow. And then at roughly around 5am there was about half an hour of heavy wet snow, oddly as the front mostly passed through and was more likely to expect rain. Left the merest patches on grass and at bottom of windscreens where it slid down and accumulated.

Very light covering here; not sure when it fell as I was up at 4am as next doors alarm went off

1ºC currently and very dark/grey out there; feels very loooming!

Woke up to more than I expected here on the coast, albeit settled-but-slushy. Expected just rain. With the oncoming easterly, looking ahead to either convective coastal Irish Sea showers or a decent prolonged battleground breakdown .

Wow thats some easterly

Because the inversion dropped lower in the atmosphere and became thinner probably due to evaporative cooling so freezing level fell. WRF was showing this could happen last night.

Just dropped the litte one of at the nursery and you could hear the trees creak with ice on them, not the weight of ice just the fact the ice is cracking as the trees move around.

Freezing rain on top of an inch of snow, not sure if that was the total depth becasue I think the wind blow it away.

Going to feel positively tropical this afternoon with  temps upto 10° here and possible thundery showers. A little taste of summer.

Just woken up. I don't know what happened. I guess it either turned to rain here or snow shadow effect have been active from the hills.

Ah well. Next event is probably next week.

Snow moving through quicker than expected, about to see it's back edge. Nearing on a couple of inches. As said it is very wet, when to step into it, there is no crunch, just a muddy puddle left underfoot.

All eyes now on the weekend.

I think I'll give summer a pass if we have a max of 10. That's not even spring

Indeed, thanks for saving me from explaining it ☺️

The deceptive thing is how far advanced the precipitation is from the front at the surface - so the milder air is not at the back edge of the snow/rain.  There is quite a sharp temperature contrast at the surface eg. North Wales 8°C at Capel Curig, 1°C at Lake Vyrnwy 29 miles and 4°C at Rhyl 23 miles distant; in Herefordshire 9°C at Hereford, 4°C at Shobdon 15 miles away. But the rainfall has long cleared these areas.

No viable routes into Yorkshire at the moment with the M62, A628, A57, A62, A635 closed.

That Amazon package probably won't be arriving today.

Groundhog Day here. Snow coming from the west has a last hurrah over Penrith and then dies in the Eden Valley so it never gets heavy enough to settle. If I had £10 for every time this has happened even just this winter I’d be laughing.
