Hi Chris, any thoughts on our neck of the woods please?

I reckon snow until five, then sleet for an hour changing back to snow until seven. Then ice pellets until 10 followed by rain.

Bloody hell that's sad . I 'd seen a few messages relating to COVID but didn't realise that.

Fingers crossed for the guy & his mum.

Saw that myself earlier and it shows how unpredictable and, in some cases how awful this virus can be.

Al being well both my wife and myself have come through the other side of it with little issue but seeing the above brings it home just how lucky we have been.

Just hope to god that Scott’s mum pulls through.

There has also been a Snow and Ice warning for today , but according to the Met forecast for my area there is none

This is Scott's post from the Yorkshire thread about an hour ago.

Hes just joked that the MO must have been reading it.

I’m gobsmacked. What on earth are the Met seeing that the models aren’t. Just looks to warm. I thought Amber down the centre of the country.

Completey agree. Everything I have seen points to it being the wrong side of marginal for most. To put that out just 4 hours before the event is due to start makes me think they have a serious level of confidence on it. Fingers crossed some of our members with a bit of elevation get an absolute pasting!

If UKMO model is indeed right with no positive T850’s  then would make a big difference imo.

Me too mate, really rooting for the both of them, it's such a lottery how it affects you. It's taken me and the Mrs about a month to get back to something like normal.

In our region it pretty much follows the higher ground so seems to be taking temperature lapse into account but on the Yorkshire side it includes lower ground away from the Pennines so they must be looking at the uppers taking longer to get mixed out further eastwards.

The update from yellow to Amber is more about impacts than amounts so they are probably more concerned with the problems that the snow will cause given the timing rather than an increase in amounts.

that said though I can’t remember the last time there was an Amber for snow over my part of the region so it will be interesting opening the curtains in the morning.

Surprised to see such a late amber warning. I suspect the met office are expecting heavy precipitation which will aid evaporative cooling and produce a few hours of very heavy snow at a rate of an inch an hour possibly, heavier places with height.

The models are suggesting the front will be a bit slower moving and it will take longer for the milder uppers to move in, indeed we might see an almost complete snow event, with a bit of sleet at the back end. Then a clearance before another bout of rain, with snow reserved for high ground only during the evening. Perhaps a full daylight snow day on the cards, with no sudden thaw. I'd take that, let the thaw happen overnight.

A word on later this week, a classic cross polar flow, rare these days! Reminds me of late Jan 96 when snow easily made it over the Pennines.

Oh no mate, I'm so sorry to hear this.

It's such a horrible thing, but she will be ok I'm sure.

Best wishes

I don’t do IMBY and take the app stuff with a pinch of salt but the Meto have me down for heavy snow for 9 hours starting at around 2 am so I would imagine that road conditions for the morning journey to work will be a bit dicy up here.

gloatingly I’m working from home this week although it should be my wife’s first day back after coming out of being confined to barracks but if the forecast comes off I think she may need another day to recover fully.

Hopefully we all see something overnight and that this is only the starter with the main course following at weekend.
