ECMWF IFS HRES (10 days) - Current forecast valid for 01/02/2021, 06:00am of parameter "Precipitation, 1h", model chart for map "England"

I like this, timing in CST though

I now have light snow symbols for tomorrow afternoon on the MetO app. 2-6pm

Wow, only 2-3pm for chorlton and none for Stretford, fine margins!

I have to say the MetO app has been absolutely woeful this past week. Really, really poor.

Not good that it completely missed all the shower potential for yesterday morning, it’s not like they were light and/or isolated.

Normally I rate it quite highly too.

Not getting my hopes up for tomorrow, will be a nice surprise if it happens. Looks very light on the ICON.

Which one got it right yesterday, it was the BBC one wasn't it?  It's bonkers that such short time periods can produce such different forecasts and outcomes.

Well I just reread the timings and by 3pm the temp is normally dropping so fingers crossed.

What models should we be looking at do you reckon for this feature? Which do you think are modelling it correctly?

Within 18 hours now so the WRF 2KM I'd say which looks reasonable to. Quite a slim chance it will be SE of this.nmm_uk1-1-22-0.thumb.png.b886652285ab4adb0da0e77b87357224.png

Got heavy snow symbol here now on Metoffice automated...but as others have pointed out, it means little.

One expecting a weaker affair with the odd light shower and the other quite high odds (80%) of heavy snow.

Think us in the very south east of the region should fingers crossed get a slight covering again from this feature if it reaches us! ☃️❄️ I guess the last few days have taught us how much these small areas of wintry precipitation that crop up with only short notice  can provide. It’ll be going dark and the temperature will be dropping ahead of a cold night so a good time for anything to fall.

Metoffice forecast looks good for East and South of the region, mentioning a light snow cover possible this afternoon. That's more bullish than their forecast when we ended up with 4cm!

Both airport forecasts onboard for possibility of snow as well. Liverpool Airport between 17:00 and 19:00 and Manchester Airport between 14:00 and 21:00.

Wow,! That's insane. Especially when you consider the low here was 1.1C.

Like clockwork, just in time for me walking to work it has just started to rain again!

It's just started to snow lightly here. Showers feeding down from the NW.

Yeah, just woke up and checked the radar and looks like the edge will S. Cheshire.

This afternoon looks interesting. Especially if the MetO et al are actually mentioning it and being quite bullish about it (mentioning a cover etc).

Down to -4c here in S Cheshire with a harsh frost last night  currently dry here but quickly clouding over from the west as sleet/ snow showers begin to move in. This afternoon into this evening looks interesting too hopefully we get a slight covering  ❄️

You can see a mass of preciptation up towards Northumberland on the radar. I think that is the potential.

Hopefully there is enough NE/SW in the direction to bring our region into play.

at the moment it is looking ok; if the Pennines don’t deflect it southerly and keep it all across Yorkshire then we may have quite a snowy afternoon.
