Morning all, -2 and a touch foggy, I have a lift into work this a.m, so hopefully I'll stay upright just walking round the corner.  Ungritted roads and pavements going to be very tricky.  Lets see what today delivers.

Light freezing rain here causing havoc leaving a layer of ice on the roads and pavements

Woke up to more snow. Very unexpected - don’t get much at all in Wigan!

I don't think I've ever seen an ensemble chart like this before.

Remarkable agreement all the way. Not to say it's right, just in agreement with itself.

Well we got the showers last night, got woken up by rain lashing against the window at one point. I guess it was always looking a bit marginal so no real surprise. Cracking update to the metoffice text forecast for tonight. Looking forward to seeing the views of the more knowledgeable posters in here as to tonight's snow chances.

Euro4 shows snow lying by 9am tomorrow for most of the region apart from areas directly on the coast. Central Lancs the sweet spot, down towards G Man. Icon similar.

GFS however looks a bit marginal and shows dewpoints above freezing for some of us.

lots to keep an eye on!

I'll take the Euro 4 please. Bin the others.

Those dewpoints are bad for Western/South Western parts of the region on the gfs and I assume we would be looking at rain if these turn out to be correct and not just close to the coast.

Not a great update. The word rain used far too often.

Yes possibly!

Tbh I was surprised when I saw the GFS parameters , most other output looks ok, fingers crossed there’ll be an upgrade in time for the 06z.

The MetO app shows light snow from 4-8am with a temp of 0C , so UKV must be ok too.

GFS has negative DP either side of the chart you posted just that brief few hours it just rises like you say hopefully the GFS 6z up grades slightly

Well the reality is, it's just not cold enough. You can have all the great synotopics but if the air is not cold enough then it's all a waste.

Maintained from the start, any snowfall will be transient in nature and its been proven to be the case, at least some areas have kept a snowcover for more than 24 hours but they are the exception rather than the rule.

With easterly winds about to develop, our snow risk will likely to diminish but again, the air from the east is not all that cold it would seem and if winds increase, it means more mixing so I'm not convinced we are looking at a particularly snowy outlook.

I'm looking forward to the rain streamer later, followed by an area of heavy rain!

The coast needs true Arctic air in these setups simple as. My hope for this week is fading.

Thankfully longer term still looks good.
