A gloomy day today, no frost this morning but a raw feel. I wonder what January rainfall will be, only one really wet day here.

Yup we maybe getting an inversion setup as temperatures have dropped from 5.5C at 7:45 this morning to 3.2c just dropping through the day. Sadly latest model runs show little of interest the high although retreating still close enough to influence the weather. Eventually of course the high does make it's way back to us in lala land. So Jan is going to be one of the most boring months of recent years. Looks like Feb will start that way.

Rubbish grey damp clag today, with a chilly nip in the air, contrast to yesterday, bright sunshine although cold it was a usable day and managed to finish the concreting on the drive,

Nothing of interest although the biggest change will be a wee breeze Saturday but the high pressure close enough afterwards to keep any cold air deflected away east of us. Deep in lala land it finally gets the boot.

Tad milder tonight with a steady breeze, hopefully this weekend we will avoid the grey clag with a breeze about,

Some nostalgia from 1963 big freeze.

Lovely I doubt the power grid these days would be able to cope with a 63

This mornings ECM has suprisingly upgraded wind speeds for sunday night into monday. It needs an eye being kept on and id imagine further warnings could be upcoming from the met if we get any upgrades from the higher res models here in Yorkshire (especially on our east coast)

Yes interesting there's warnings for later on. Was really surprised how strong the wind was today around 6am, strong enough to wake us all up, felt stronger than forecast but maybe it's the lack of gales this winter that caused the surprise.

Sounds really bad here, woke me up at 6am and heard bins being blown over. Seemed to calm a little but now it's very gusty again.

My station says highest gust has been 24mph. Seems low but maybe just sounds worse after having no weather for a month!

Quite wild here this morning around 7.30, gusts well in excess of 50mph i would estimate. Calmed down a bit now, broken cloud and sunny intervals and surprisingly mild at 12c. No rain to speak of, going to be a dry January.

Yes same here, some 55 mph gusts being shown on local weather stations, which is quite unusual this close to the town centre. Loads of litter being blown around in the air, which is often the best gauge of gust strength round here............

Met Office said gusts to 55mph on their text forecast today.

Leeds/Bradford 69mph

Emley Moor 83mph

Curse of the NW gale funnelling down the Dales/valleys.

Not sure I have seen winds that strong for a long time. Two trees down in neighbours garden and lots of disruption and lucky escapes in the wider area.

Still a tad breezy out this eve, although not too cold, will tomorrow nights storm warning donate some more wood to add to the log shed?

Wind slowly rising here not expecting much but the front seems to be quite active at the moment. Could be the first real rain since the start of the month.
