Yeah it's got to be one of the most disappointing weeks ever. All that excitement in the model thread, finally getting the 'kink' so that the cold 850s come in. We should have been buried with -9s but nothing has come of it. Showers have been pathetic!

Roll on to the next chance for me now, unfortunately it's going to be a while with 6c next week and no cold uppers.

Sorry for the moan!

The uppers are mostly -7/-8 so I'm not surprised the outcome turned out the way it did.

I said from the start it wasn't looking good, the Met Office didn't see any potential either, I think some on here are reading the charts wrong.

We need uppers of around -12/-13 to see lying snow for costal areas and around -10/-11 inland in a showery easterly flow.

There's some more significant ppn coming into Norfolk it's a shame we can't get anything like that further north.

Sorry but for your talking nonsense with that bit in bold.

The uppers are not the best but the high thicknesses and being so close to high pressure means it was never a full on convective easterly so this means higher dew points and therefore higher temperatures.

Seen snowfall lying on coastal areas in a convective easterly with -10 uppers before. I do agree it was hyped up quite a bit though.

It's a number of factors however the overriding factor is the poor uppers. You wouldn't get snow lying in a NWly with these uppers either.

Any news on the band of rain/sleet and snow coming south on Thurs/Friday? Are we expecting any potential surprises?

It looks promising for North and West Yorkshire , but poor for East again.

That is a decaying front so may be patchy by the time it hits us. ( one to watch )

Temperature now ideal for snow at 0.6c with -0.1c dew but sods law shower has just passed the south of Malton over the Wolds.

Plenty more out to sea so there's still a chance.

Just had a heavy shower in North Newbald that was all sleet , temp still 1.5 c here and dew point of 0.4 c ( the higher Wolds are getting a pasting of snow though )

Not at sea level with uppers of -7 or -8 going from my experience of living here but any reasonable height and 10 miles away from the coast, there is every chance.

High thicknesses and pressure has put a cap on shower activity in terms of their strength and this has meant dew points and temperatures at times are slightly higher. Uppers of -8 with low pressure and thicknesses would give a different result on higher ground especially.

A light sugar coating of wintry precipitation this morning. Meanwhile the Moors/Wolds above 200m continues to see accumulating snow. Trouble on both Garrowby Hill and Sutton Bank this morning it would seem.

The North York Moors above 300 metres has seen snow on the ground since Xmas Eve now which is nearly 2 weeks. Elevation really has been a key factor in this “cold” spell.
