Now that was the most incredible storm I've seen in years. Woke me up with a direct hit. This is not edited, it was this frequent for about 15 minutes and the rain just before this video was biblical!

The worst has passed over but that was truly something, didn’t expect this today at all. Nice to see a proper nighttime storm for a change!

Does anyone have a logical (and meteorological) explanation what triggered last night's impressive thunderstorm? CAPE was alright for thunderstorms in the afternoon and we just had heavy rain then. T was around 7C when thunderstorm initiated. What caused the instability then?

16.5 degrees here at the moment, bright sunshine, a few clouds but nothing detrimental, i would say a couple of degrees warmer out of the breeze, gotta grab it while you can

Missed all the rain today, been a lovely day, T-shirt weather when then sun was out, occasionally cloudy but a very useful day, local beer garden was just about tolerable at teatime for a swift few

Over on the N Yorkshire coast again for a few days. Threatening clouds around most of the day but rain held off here until about 7pm when it poured for a short while. Clouds seem to be dispersing now and clear skies as night approaches.

The odd rumble of thunder here this afternoon and my husband spotted
a funnel cloud about 1.15 pm to the north.

Morning was sunny and quite warm but a few heavy showers here on the N Yorkshire moors this afternoon, the heaviest being as I came back across the moors from Pickering to Whitby late afternoon. Very hit and miss as the road into Whitby was bone dry!

Nice start in Whitby but awful since lunch and glad that I've been able to stay indoors. Wind is nothing exceptional at the moment for the east coast, and, as I have to travel back across the Pennines tomorrow on the M62, I'm rather hoping that the low pressure passes right over the top of us, with the main winds keeping further south.

Just overheard a woman in the supermarket next to castle hill hospital saying a friend had sent a video of a tornado nearby. Any reports?

Much warmer then forecast it seems today. Meto has us at 18c for this time and it's 24c on my station. Guess there was more cloud breaks than expected!

Shows you what big difference it makes though

Forecast for the coast according to the met office is dismal tomorrow. Let’s see how much North Sea crud we actually get.

Arrived in Whitby this afternoon half expecting to see it shrouded in sea mist, particularly after looking down on the town from Blue Bank on the road from Pickering where it was warm and sunny. But the mist has stayed just offshore since I arrived, although there is now a cold wind,  and the BBC forecast seems to suggest that only those places on the East Coast that jut out, for example Aberdeenshire, will be plagued by mist and low cloud tomorrow. We shall see! Also a decent forecast for the week ahead from Tomas S on Country File for this part of the world, which is good as I am due to be here until Thursday or Friday and could do with a bit of Vitamin D without reaching for the bottle !

It’s a case of turn up and see what happens isn’t it? We had a layer of thin cloud with he a few breaks in withernsea yesterday.  Felt freezing the front but warm and pleasant in any sun traps. The feel made me complacent and managed to get a sunburn.

Bridlington been cold and grey for a good part of Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

There have been some sunny intervals also but hardly a proper warm sunny late May day !

Saturday was excellent though and warmer.

Town is packed with visitors but at around 12~14c hardly warm over the last 2 days.

Meanwhile west has done very well indeed

Thick mist on the moors above Whitby first thing this morning and a bit grey at Pickering until mid-morning, but then wall-to-wall sunshine for the rest of the day, both at Pickering and back at Whitby. A bit of a sea breeze on the coast, but clearly did not spoil the enjoyment for the many visitors to the town, as evidenced by the red faces leaving this evening!
