Hopefully get some hail be only chance of anything white here. Might as well be 9 or 10c with south west winds thats vile enough but not as vile as 4 or 5c with easterly winds. Hopefully will get some hard frosts later in the week. Roll on March for the usual dry spell with some early summerlike weather as often is case nowadays

Yes, its been rubbish for us again. If we don't get anything in the next few days its quite likely we'll be half way through winter with no lying snow. My big concern is that this spell could well be the coldest of the winter and we'll be looking down the barrel of yet another snowless winter. Long way to go at least.

Forget what i said about thursday nighy as the gfs has ONCE AGAIN diwngraded a 7-9 hour period of heavy snow to nothing! So yes a damp squib.

At such short a time frame i expected better. What frustrates me is that if it was a band of heavy rain it would have stayed of that but snow -no it just weakens as per. Snowing heavy as i speak lol. But a big let dwn. Even the meto ere saying snow ovrrnight thursday! Tgry must have seen something  anywsts

Just went to put the bins out. Feels a fair bit milder tonight than the last few nights and surfaces aren't frozen. Anything falling here is falling as rain.

Yes very true i must admit as i get older the desire for snow begins to fade but there still something magical about snow but being awful here since 2013   few brief marginal snowfalls which have melted in few hours apart from feb/March 2018 and that was more impressive for cold and wind rather then snow amounts.  Rather have an week of hard frosts tbh which are just as hard to get it seems. But still plenty of time yet for it to change the chase goes on ha.

Due to the high heights the 850mb level is 1650m tho, so at sea level you need -9.8 in this set up with the maritime layer and at 200m -8.2 ish. So in theory these uppers should be ok, but the precip is too light & maritime layer too strong. The high heights is also preventing decent convection.

Awful recipie really. Early hours down to 120m tho.

Its the heights preventing big enough showers from lowering the freezing level.

Deffo bust i feel but its 2am whem things look to pep up on higher res models

Yeah. Lower heights or lower temps needed. A convergence is possible 7-8am, this setting up nicely across the channel with lower heights too.

Been having very light snow showers on and off since mid evening time in Penistone.

There's a thin layer on everything, with a slushy, wet snow layer on the cars.

Our back lane is covered (vehicle access only) but the main road outside is clear.

We're at around 250m asl here (just below the woodhead pass)
