A few people have asked this morning why the snow showers haven’t been heavy these last few days.  I hope @johnholmes  doesn’t mind, but he posted this in the MOD thread earlier explaining why....

‘Just a comment about the showers coming in off the N Sea during this cold spell. None of the skew-t diagrams, sveral days prior to the first showers, nor during the last 48 hours have shown cloud tops above 8-at times 12,000 ft. The air aloft has not been as cold as say on previous cases when bands/showers have affected eastern and central hours. Thus the intensity of many of the showers has not been very high. Obviously in a few locations the frequency tended to make up for this. I have not noticed any posts about 'thunder-snow' another indication that the instability has not been very marked.’

Sorry guys. My mums still in a really bad way. I just wanted to post to quickly say tonight in my opinin is being underestimated. The trend today has been to keep the front as all snow

Last one from me, great day...just stopped now so 11 hours of snow 👍👏👏 Hope those that missed out get some soon 🤞👍

Around 50cm has fallen across the highest parts of the North York Moors yesterday. Went for a walk this morning at Newgate Bank. Around 30cm of fresh powdery snow underfoot and quite difficult to

Pleased but grim at same time even low lying area's of East Yorkshire should expect at least an min fall of 5 to 10 cms most winters much more in good ones and im including the coast in that to.

From what I’ve heard from mates back in East Yorkshire quite a few low lying places have done well.

We have 7cm in Malton. That’s on the level in an area that hasn’t been exposed to the sun or any drifting. We’ve had no other settling snow this winter except for a dusting so I’m very pleased with that!!

Had a fair few showers today whilst at work which looked lovely at their peaks, but never lasted long enough to stop the gradual thaw of last night's showers. Garden now has an inch where the sun hasn't got to it and just patches of 1cm where it has. Although that is an improvement on this time yesterday. Radar looks decent upwind near to Bridlington, but need the showers to hold together as they approach.

It was more in regards to having to wait that long for snow. We have done ok here but wouldnt regard it as an classic so far so close if showers had being more intense and prolonged could have easily got 10 to 15cms possibly more. But hey the weather will do what it wants and just pleased to have an decent fall and who knows might be an few more pleasant suprises yet.

    Been warm today hitting 2c!

Looks like the heated surfaces from the sun has aided the showers inland

    Tonight could be interesting

This is what hasn't been happening since the start of the cold spell. Maybe tonight could get something better

Cant decide on the track, the hills could take it South of me or swerve it in my direction.

Winds seem to be switching more straight Easterly now and showers seem to be popping up inland as well as in the North Sea.

Would it be too much to ask for a Humber streamer to develop this evening?  🙏

These look like the heftiest showers I have seen all day incoming?

I think that it would probably scrape to your south just like it did here, there is more developing around it,will see what happens.

Just so everyone knows when I was looking at the models with the streamers predicted I was expecting this hitting Yorkshire in different parts from Sunday to Wednesday.

This is what you call a streamer!

    Yep, great isn't it!

I'm surprised how big the flakes have been in the showers. Usually from cold dry easterlies in this air mass they should be the small type!
