Woke up to a slight covering here in Sheffield, not a bad start but hoping for more.

Im sure there is a scientific/meterological reason but the flakes are just so small combined with high wind gusts it struggling to settle

Really poor effort here so far with a dusting and thats it. This is definitely another 2018 failure so far. Still lots of time to go but I must say I prefer a good northerly or north-easterly.

Yeah snap. It's been rattling the window all night for not a lot. Just hope convection picks up with the sun on it up top

It's because the air is so cold and dry, making it powdery snow instead of wet

Still think that warning of the amber will extend northwards through the day as per EURO 00Z update. Today will be the best radar watching day ever

Think we are about 4 or 5 miles outside, so as Meto been so accurate with their warnings this year, we may still get in on the heavier stuff.

Snow on and off all night due to the wind and it being really fine no great depth just an covering and the showers dont really last long or are intense long enough. Yes it better then cold rain or sleet anyday but be nice to see some larger flakes and hopefully some greater depths let see what today brings.

Aye, excitedly opened the curtains first thing ....   but ..  nowt but a patchy sprinkling of 'dandruff'   ..
See if a few showers today adds to that.  Surely ..

A dusting here. Looking at the radar the heavier showers are to our south as per the warning. Could be a frustrating day today I feel

@Scott Ingham as someone who is still learning about convection/snowfall. I can see why you made the prediction of 20cm and possibly more for some areas in our region. Just had a really heavy burst lasted around 15 minutes and dropped a cm of snow. The Daughters nursery in Barnsley saying they haven’t had much only 10 minute drive away. Crazy, but goes to show we are all in the game today, just need a little luck.
