Another decent covering in Barnsley, maybe 2-3 inches.  Turning sleety now though, so warm up on the way for the next couple of days.  Looking forward to the weekend and onwards (assuming all models except GFS are correct!)

Started to snow on the coast, not settling yet, but that could change. Gone from dry at 5.30am to a light fall at 6.10 to quite fast now. Medium flakes and a local weather station shows -1C dewpoint so that may help.

Now turned to rain/sleet and dewpoint has risen, not much hope here I reckon

The snow is very marginal in pocklington the flakes are barely making it to the ground but looking up to the sky I can see loads of snow blowing around

Been heavy sleet here in Bev since I got up at 06:45 Temp has risen 0.2°C in the last hour to 1.8°C and the DP the same, now at 1.4°C. I think we need to wait until the weekend. This is the sleetyest winter I can ever remember here.

We don't seem to get the surprise snowfalls we used to and easterlies don't seem to deliver either. Three times we have had easterlies (not strong) this winter and all we have had is sleet. It's like being back in Edinburgh..... When I was there it was always the East Coast that was getting plastered from Dunbar South; not anymore it seems.

The Easterlies we've had so far haven't been a true Easterly with isobars stretching back to Eastern Mediterranean, add this to North sea temperatures being a little higher than normal it just tips it against snow falling nearer to coast.

You should be ok with this next Easterly.

Well after using the old car roof as a level we got 7cm here, though sleety drizzle now on the way in to Sheff, A57 down to parkway crawling along

Yep, I know the reason(s), it's just the frustration... I have known fantastic snowfalls from south-easterlies and I naturally expect, when they occur in January, to get a dumping. This is not happening anymore... I guess we all know why, but it's still very disappointing as we don't get them every year and, when we do, you expect delivery, but it never quite manages it these days.

This is the 5th covering of the winter but I'm more excited for the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire area from this Sunday onwards! I will be concentrating on these magical streamers on Sunday and this will bring all the feels of 2010. CANT WAIT.

Few photos from this morning. 8-10cm

Weirdly, the temp and DP have both dropped by 0.2°C in the last 20 minutes or so. No idea why but the sleet has become a bit snowier in response. These events are so marginal here this year, it is amazing.

just had a last hurrah with a heavy shower then it's stopped.

with the very accurate "finger dip" measurement, it went up to the last knuckle and just onto the back of my hand - so about 10-12 cm

so I'm stuck at home, as predicted, as virtually all bus services in SY are suspended. time to finish that decorating!
