To say it’s meant to snow in the morning it doesn’t really feel cold out! Is there colder air due to move in? Could be a damp squib here in York again if not

Currently, it's 1C out, with a dew of -0.9C around here, so it's cold enough for snow for us.

as for the cold moving in, not sure, haven't really followed developments for a number of days as I've been decorating

if you don't have a weather station, you could do what I've done and found a local station (just about quarter of a mile away from me) on wunderground.com to keep tabs on your local conditions

Same all winter suspect you will do better then here but looks another bust anywhere low lying within 20 odd miles of the coast. Cant say to fussed if going to turn rain anyway and cba to get up at 5am on off chance might get few flakes. Though local forecasts have mentioned chance of snow at low levels so who knows might get an suprise.

I think York will see snow falling but it will be very marginal and may not settle.

Is it the band from the south or north west which will bring snow?

0.1°C here now with a DP of -1.4°C so deffo cold enough at the mo. Wind, such as it is, is ESE so not the greatest direction and has resulted in a lot of sleet or very cold rain this winter. Not looked at any charts since Saturday but will take a look later to see if we have a chance at all this far East, otherwise it should be the weekend when we finally break this winter's snow drought.

Westwood might very well be a super-spreader event if it does materialise....

Well BBC seem to think it's 12c for Sheffield tomorrow afternoon on the TV at half 6!!!!!

Can't see that! Likely flooding issues with all that fast snow melt....

Meto website shows 3c right into the evening....

The poor public. BBC wants shut of that contract fast, it's so embarrassing!

On the bright side, meto automated now showing 6 hours of heavy snow for me 3am-9am ?️

Agreed, I know the pattern is complex but numerous times this winter, there temperature forecasts have been 3 or 4 degrees out. Not so bad in the summer, but in the winter it’s the difference between dangerously icy roads and patchy frost.

I suppose they can only serve up what data their given and they may be right, but if your forecasting 2m temps wrong in situations were “marginal” is the word, people could find themselves in a position that they not fully prepared for.

Just been out for a 3 mile Boris-mandated exercise and it feels colder than it is - the breeze is quite keen and it feels sub-zero but is actually around 3c.  I never expected tonight/tomorrow to deliver for here and it never really looked like it would at any point close to the reliable, so I shrugged it off. Good luck to those west and/or higher than us though - another fall and this will have been a very decent winter for many away from the east coast. Hopefully that continues for you all overnight.

A sample of other snow depth charts for noon Tuesday.  Arpege has more snow further south and similar to Euro4, and also greater depth.  Others have less snow and are further north.
