Ppn is definitely further North than predicted by most models yesterday and although a stall South of our region still looks likely, we are defintely getting a draw from the East.  Latest Radar is picking up showers coming in from off the sea into Lincolnshire so South Yorkshire may still get to see a smattering today.

Midlands thread are reporting rain at lower levels with sleet/wet snow with elevation, and it seems the cold air must be digging South as they are also reporting a fall in temps and rain turning to snow in some areas.

All positives to me!

Showers continuing to feed in from the East for a while this morning, although doubtful they will be significant or amount to accumulations.

ICON 6z brings snow to the very South of the region late Monday evening before stalling and the first front fizzling out.  A second front then re-energises the ppn in the early hours of Tuesday morning and pushes it further North across most of our region.  The front then makes slow progress North giving snow across most our region for potentially 36 hours, at various levels of intensity. During Wednesday the snow becomes confined to higher ground and North Yorkshire and less cold air encroaches from the South bring a return to rain in the South of the region.

Updated warning

A band of rain, locally heavy in places, is likely to push slowly northeast across Wales and England early Tuesday. As this rain comes into contact with cold air in place, it is likely to readily turn to snow away from eastern coastal districts. 1-4 cm of snow is quite likely away from eastern coasts, with 5-10 cm possible above about 150 metres and up to 20 cm across higher parts of the northern Pennines and Southern Uplands. As well as snow, a period of freezing rain is possible for parts of east Wales and the north Midlands. Should this occur widespread icy stretches would form. Snow should turn back to rain from the south, lasting longest across parts of northern England, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.

That now seems to marry up pretty close to the ICON for the progression of the ppn, although Meto going for transition to rain earlier.

Liking the direction of the flow, East North East tends to be good for most of our region.  Ppn chart for same time looks tasty as well!

Looks like the weather warnings for next week have been updated to only include Tuesday.

Monday's warning was illogical tbf. If it snows on Tuesday they will issue an ice warning for Wednesday or they might extend snow warning for the morning only if snow persists in places.

Agreed!  I didn’t understand why they issued a 3 day warning so far out, particularly when Monday never really seemed to have any significant snow in the warning area.  Meto Warnings gave been poor all winter.

I believe it was because the warning start time was 11:45pm (?‍♂️) on Monday evening. So they've actually only delayed it by 15 minutes! Agree with you that their warnings have been comically poor, especially the snow ones.

Few light snow showers here earlier this morning, nice to see the Moors had a slight covering of snow from these.

Tuesday morning still looking OK as per NMM few posts above, thought id just add GFS snow accumulation chart as well.

Central and western areas, especially with elevation set to fare best.

My prediction is for a relatively light band of snow to move into southern areas tomorrow pm

image.thumb.png.766d47d735dc92d2ea830305792c17a8.png

This then followed by a band of heavier snow Tuesday am

image.thumb.png.9c24e05860817bc6163f5f2e857e6063.png

And further reinforced by a third during Tuesday evening

If this stalls which is not at al clear then ICON may have the solution but i do not want to go that far really..

So today went as expected, With the main band reaching north midlands with a little clipping our most southern parts of our region. Starting to really look forward to Tuesday now where some relatively low lying places 100-150m could see around 10cm and If the system stalls slightly which is a possibility it could well be more however this isn’t clear at the moment but if it does and we get the cold in slightly quicker the snow could stick around ready for the potential BFTE.

Low pressure dominant over the UK at first, bringing outbreaks of rain and snow over northern areas on Thursday with snow perhaps to lower levels. Further south milder and brighter with sunny spells and showers. High pressure then looks to gradually build to the north, introducing cold and dry weather across the UK with the chance of wintry showers along eastern coastal areas. Feeling cold, potentially very cold, especially in brisk easterly winds with widespread overnight frosts and the risk of icy stretches and wintry hazards. There remains the possibility of milder and wetter conditions fringing the far northwest at times along with organised areas of cloud and precipitation making limited progress inland from the southwest.
