Really icy out there now with frozen slush and ice on the pavements .

Had snow showers most of the day but a slow thaw of the lying snow. We now have a thin layer of snow on the grass and patches on pavements as has been the case every day since Monday night .

An interesting week if nothing classic.

Very heavy cold rain here, which is the worst weather in existence, it has a habit of turning the ground into muddy mush as well.

Last night was horrendous here with the Ice where even gritted roads froze over, it was thankfully gone by morning.

Look I know it's very far from a big freeze out there but it's pretty nippy waiting for kids to finish school, wish I'd put hat and gloves on. So what on earth was Paul Hudson going on about at lunchtime about how mild it is, didn't even say relatively mild.  He and Darren Bett must be best buddies

Just been out to Langsett Reservoir (250m asl) for a morning walk with the dog.  Left home in Barnsley (100m asl) in thick fog which gradually cleared the nearer we got to Langsett.  Had a fantastic walk in beautiful sunshine with completely clear skies.  Temp reading on the car was 6.5c as we left at 11.45.  Got back home and still thick fog and frost, car temp gauge reading  minus 1c!

If we can’t have snow, then this a a decent alternative!

So can we wrap winter up or is something around the corner in February waiting for us?

Its only mid January! We are only 1/3rd or 1/2th the way through Winter depending on which definition you use.

Also the high that is over us will shift at some point in the next couple of weeks, models seem to keep having it go Northwards.

Well if we don't get any decent snow in the next 3-4 weeks then that's it for me , from March I want dry weather as that is when I'm starting to prepare my cricket square for the season which starts mid April and a decent start to the growing season always helps.

Was hoping for an ice day here but not to be. It's 2c now but was still -1 at midday.

Did get down to -3 last night though so at least it's seasonal. Much rather this then mild and rain if we can't get snow.

Still time

Well a miserable cold damp foggy day here. Fog hasn't lifted all day, temperature just above freezing, and fog thickening again now.

Those of you with a weather station might want to check your pressure readings from the last 30 mins. I've managed to record the pressure spike here which was actually the shock wave from the Tonga volcano eruption coming over the UK!

Sadly i think it rained earlier so it looks like we have to start at zero for rainless stretches.

Another lovely sunny day round these parts followed by a cold crisp evening, car windscreens freezing over already, will be a nice frost in the morning!

A strange day weatherwise whilst out on my lunchtime bike ride, bright sunshine, and an almost cloudless blue sky, not cold, 8C, BUT a 30-35mph WNW wind, really tough cycling into it, and buffeting around when from the side. As for snow tomorrow, maybe but according to snow probability here its dropped from 70%+ earlier in the week so probably less likely, but as we all snow can be very fickle
