I was conscious of heavy rain on the caravan roof during the night. Having said that, we missed most of the rain today inland until I came home over the NY Moors to Whitby late afternoon in a cloudburst. Still some showers around but focus is now on the wind which is blowing around now and is forecast to get stronger during the night. Hopefully some ear plugs may help me to get some sleep before I head home to Cheshire tomorrow!

Rain and wind have arrived with a vengeance, now where are the ear plugs when you want them?!

Been a wet windy night on the coast and our stove also lit last night and again this morning. Rain is now a fine drizzle, and driven by a strong NW wind is very wetting.

A horrible night at Whitby with wind and driving rain throughout. Not a night for a caravan. I got the impression that at 8am, when I loaded up the car, the wind had come around to more of a NE rather than NW but could be wrong. It was certainly NW for most of the night. Strange journey back to Cheshire, with the wind and rain at Whitby quickly replaced with blue skies and sun by the time I came off the A64 and on to the M1(S). Such are the vagaries of the weather on the NY Moors.

Edit - what's the weather like there now? Have the wind and rain finally cleared? I can imagine that anyone coming from (say) Leeds for a day out in Whitby will have had a nasty shock if the weather is as it was earlier. It's quite pleasant back in Cheshire, but that's relative of course!

Cleared up a bit by this aft on the Wolds, a bit of pleasant sunshine at teatime on the way home from work, cooled off now after sunset into the evening,

Below freezing in a couple of spots across North Yorkshire already this evening.

Currently 4.5c here, so a possibility of the first ground frost here providing the forecast cloud cover doesn't come over too quickly.

Clear skies this evening, feels proper chilly here on the Wolds, wouldn't be surprised to see a ground frost, log burner ticking over nicely

Ground frost here at +1.1C, it is bouncing up and down a bit as every now and then some wind picks up.
It will reach a minimum before midnight most likely.

Lot higher up on the Moors than here so minimum likely me thinks, see if the Wolds can keep up

Occasional bits of drizzle this evening, currently 13.5c and the air so still you could hear a church mouse fart!

I like the analogy! Back on the NY coast for a final few days before we close up the caravan for the winter. Very mild with wind (yes we do have wind) blowing off the moors. Hope it continues for the rest of this week. I've not seen the forecast for the week ahead but I suspect it's not going to be entirely dry.

Its very still further down the coast on the east side of the Wolds, it does tend to keep a breeze going off the coast over the moors, i think the farmers round these parts would welcome abit of rain after drilling winter barley?
