The house is still feeling the cold but the snow is finally beginning to thaw @ 150m in Sheffield.
Overall lots of hope but disappointed as others have said. Expected much more with an amber warning but the lesson is that the north easterlies dont quite make it happen here - we need a true easterly. The thing is that the charts all looked like a true easterly. And also the fact that this occurred in early Feb - what happened ??‍♂️??
Overall ok but expected at least 15 cms but got a max of about 6cm.

Higher parts of Sheffield had about 10cm’s from the rain to snow event which ain’t bad.

Here’s a pic from just now - still good cover

We've had some mega snowfalls around here in past on a North Easterly, anything slightly East of North can produce goods this side of Pennines.

Well it's bucketing it down now in Sheffield which brings the curtain down on a great cold spell and indeed a very seasonal winter(even tho there's still some of it left).

Although the potential was there for more severe weather, to me it has been just right this winter - just enough snow at times to go sledging and snowman building with the kids but thankfully not enough to cause any major disruption. The last thing we really needed was roads being impassable, deliveries not getting through, key workers struggling to get to and from work, people not making vaccine appointments, A&E swamped with slip and fall breakages etc etc etc.

So next time someone says to you this winter has been a bust/fail, potential aside, think to yourself for a moment... Has it really? Compared to many an Atlantic driven rainfest over the last 30 odd years it hasn't been that bad at all and like I say, with all that we've had to deal with these last months, this winter gas been imo just about right.

Well the snow was fun while it lasted ( always pretty ), but spring has to kick in at some point, so I welcome the thaw

The high temperatures that's been showing last few days have been diluted to just mild weather now with more of an Atlantic influence going on latest runs.

The usual yuk stuff we're more use too.

If it gets any milder, the grass will grow fast and then it will be even quieter apart from the sound of the lawn mowers.

Nice winter sunshine today, even had an hour in the garden, such a contrast to this time last week!

Beefy squall line just passed through. Very strong gusts and heavy rain. About the only excitement this week lol!

Good 12z from GFS setting up a cold blast below the 300h mark. Day by day there are stronger signals of a decent blocking and a possible Easterly/NorthEasterly in early March.

Game on, March has always been a winter month for me.

Plenty of spring days to come next week and good chance of an slightly above average month temperature wise.

Now for some reason when I looked at the charts the 06oz was chosen while the rest of the panels were 12oz. No idea why it decided to show a cached image when I hadn't even looked at the 06oz earlier in the day. I was looking at 0 to -3C upper and daft day time temperatures.

One of heaviest Snowfalls I've ever seen was third week in March in 1979.

Looks as though any heavy rain will be further West of Pennines, just light and patchy this neck of woods.

Winds eased a bit during the afternoon but still brisk. Noce walk round the park with less people about than normal. Nice to get a windy day for once.

Models twitching and hinting of a cooler spell of weather to come for spring. Since the early spring weather has savaged chances of getting a well below average February it would be nice to get some cold spring days thrown in. Looking like I'll get a chance to cut the lawn tomorrow and cut some bushes back a bit. Interestingly the Buddleia never thought it was winter and never lost it leaves or flowers that matter. New leaves are now joining the old leaves. It the weather keeps on it's warming trend it will probably stay in leaf and flower all year round every year with a few other bushes that in recent years have shown a reluctance to accept winter.

Pretty chilly last night. Got down to -0.8c just around dawn.

Noticed met had us going no lower than 4c in their automated, so they were way off

Just had a little wander around back garden, feels very pleasant in sun even though temperature is only about 10 degrees.
