Hi Scott. A few people I’ve spoken to are a bit downbeat over the snow chances for Leeds. It all looks a bit too south of here. What’s your punt at what sort of conditions we might see? Thanks

Leeds wont be far off the main streamer you shouls clip the outiside edge of this band but it does push north later monday for a bit before heading south.

Dont think youll be hitting the aggressive south yorkshire and north derbyshire totals but it will be an enjoyable day sll the same 8-15cms id suggest

I don't mind South Yorks getting a streamer, we probably did better up here with the frontal events in January/early Feb. I just don't want it to be close enough that we are in the dead zone either side. Hopefully they may wriggle up and down a bit to cover a wider area!

Thank you for your generosity, I'll let the weather gods know

Yes I wasn't quite sure where the concern was coming from as it has only ever been tonight onwards when the real fun starts with anything before being a bonus?

Thoughts on thundersnow tomorrow Scott In view of your post?  I suspect those under the streamer and closest to the coast have the best chance?

Experienced it a couple of times before but would love to again (greedy I know!)

Cant discount it but i would say no on the thunder snow front

Instability isnt near 2018 or 2010.

The talking pount is the length of time these easterly winds persist

I.e 20 hours @ 3mm per hour (random number and hours) = 60mm

Over 10 hours @ 4mm per hour = 40mm

Hours and rates just picked for easy maths not because of forecast

Do you think parts of Wakefield and Hudderfield will squeeze a bit more snow  than say those in the northern part of West Yorkshire, that will likely get 8 to 15 cm Scott? Huddersfield borders South Yorkshire, feel like theres a good oppertunity to stay with in the moderate to heavy precipitation.

Cheers for that.

Interesting you talk about longevity.  Its easy to see how if one area is under a streamer for any length of time those totals could really rack up.

I still think somebody somewhere on low ground in our region will hit the jackpot and receive 30cms - 40cms by the end of Wednesday.  Not beyond the realms of possibility in my opinion.

Exciting! It’s showing a streamer right on top of where I am, tomorrow’s going to be fun!

Yes I’m hoping we are well positioned to finally see some worthwhile snow, what could go wrong?

Not getting over excited over a streamers. If you're lucky you get under one if your unlucky you just seem pass to the north and south and vainly hoping on the radar that one new stream pops up with your name on it.

Can't really take the mickey out of the south east thread as they have something I haven't measurable snow.

So far marks out of ten. 2 for giving false hope of some snow cover this morning then -2 for melting most of it overnight. One mark for flurries and one for the wind chill minus one mark for the continued slow thaw. Total marks 1/10

Status Kitten from east.

GFS extending the cold spell just want ECM onboard as well with the idea now and good times.

Yeah for sure all the models show snow reaching wales so the further south in the region you are the better!

Must be stressed it looks good for all the region over a 3 day period however! Sure most of us will have enough snow for a snowman and night temperatures look freezing!!!

I bet these streamers position themselves just to the North or south so most of Lowland East Yorkshire misses out again. Hopefully not as 2018 was like this and we ended up with a totally cack 1cm.

GEM 12z, which was the first to pick up the Baltic/Humber streamer last week, is a big upgrade for tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday with just about all parts of our region getting in on the game at some point over the next 3 days!  Let’s just hope it’s right!
