Morning

so we have had on and off grauple here all morning, not amounting to anything.
Why does the radar currently show beefy showers for all when in reality hardly anything is falling!
can the radars be wrong?

It's the dry snow blowing about in the air, not necessarily reaching the ground.

Met office warning from Monday to Wednesday has been adjusted. They’ve dropped the mention of ice with snow being the main focus now.

The details actually mentions their focus is in snow. Interesting

Just looking at the radar and there seems to be a narrow band or snow on the southern tip of Norway. Is this a streamer heading towards us or do they form closer to our shores?

The Wash corridor is narrowing now the gap is from Peterborough to Cambridge on the radar although the ppn is fragmented and light here in South Lincolnshire. It appears that the wind direction is changing slightly moving the snow showers south.

Positive start to the day.

Not expected anything meaningful till later Sunday but getting occasional light graupel showers.

And that helps brake the monotony of lockdown

Great update. I also like the fact that they mention the warning area has been expanded more westwards through northern England. This means they expect snow to penetrate right across to the west. Fab news.

Had a gander on the SE thread. Lots of talk of snow and a few inches but they are shy with their pics.

Remember though for every 3" snow reported down in the south east, there is in fact only 1" of snow! A useful tool for when snow reports come in down there

For you guys this has shifted tad north!! First shift short term.

Highlighted where it has moved further north. Leeds could just scrape this if further increments north happens.

Yeah, look at that dry zone on the boundry tough, I see a few models suggesting this, Aprege EU is worst case scenario just north of leeds. Might be a case of decent snow here in Kippax but much less as I drive through to Ilkley to work in the coming days.

Temperature has been rising during the last hour and now up to 1.6° with a DP of 1.0°C. All snow and graupel here this morning but nothing sticking, mostly just blowing around in the wind, which is gusty, really. I thought it would be a lot colder by now.

Coming down a bit heavier here now.

Still just slightly too warm for it to settle, might have to wait till darkness to see any accumulations.

Its never going to stick around much during the day at the moment as with 'only' -10c uppers the temperature will always rise to about 2c between showers. Overnight is the best bet for accumulations.

2010 and 2013 were pretty similar. You're only going to get decent coverings overnight if  it gets heavy and persistent.

Just seems bizarre to me though considering how well Leeds has done in all recent easterlies.

Well it goes to show if you do hit a dark blue bit on the radar, it quickly escalates on the ground. Bit heavier and it would have been blizzard conditions! Only lasted a few minutes, would need 20 mins or more to give a covering I reckon. Hopefully it will continue to gradually get better but I've seen charts that suggest this afternoon may dry up again?

Yes things need to pep up a bit. Nothing getting anywhere near Rotherham or Sheffield at the mo. Can see them evaporating on the radar to the NE before they make it.

I think tiny variations in the wind direction can make all the difference. I'm looking for a fraction South of due easterly. Anything like ENE and it goes from the Humber to Sheffield!
