PPN looks to be fizzling out now. Are there many showers around tomorrow?

Our monitor is not used to the new channels potential so we keep getting forecast spikes way, way above that which we actually see?

Anyone east of the works in the upper Calder watch out!

We're shipping tonnages of water like you could not imagine!!

But you will become used to!

An Interesting tweet from BBC Wales weatherman Derek. Interesting graphic explaining the ‘Baltic streamer’ .... heading for Yorkshire!

Yeah I read that somewhere apparently on sat view you can see the stream of clouds all the way from the Baltic, absolutely mind blowing the distance this cold is extending

OK, it may be nothing but the humidity has dropped to 98%: this is the lowest for a couple of days. The temp has also gone down to 3.3°C so very small steps but maybe the first tiny hints of the air mass change. DP now 3.3°C.

I'm getting excited over changes of 1% - I really do need to get a life.....

Over the tops near Driffield its 1.oC at 10pm light snow sleet to lower Driffield.

The wind near gale force in places ideal conditions for drifting later imo.

That is exactly how we ended up with 2ft of Snow in 2010 in Dronfield North East Derbyshire was an absolutely epic snowfall.

The band of showers were very narrow but extremely heavy.

Last night was a bonus fall ahead of the main event starting today. Most of it has turned to slush or melted but the proper cold air should be arriving in the next couple of hours so keep an eye on the radar for the patchy flurries to grow into something more interesting. Hopefully!

The MetO automated forecast is a big improvement for here on Monday, with snow showers all day, as well as periods of heavy snow.

Guess time will tell.

Today looks a bit rubbish though - a few showers later perhaps.

indeed alot better

Tonight:

Bitterly cold with a fresh and gusty northeasterly breeze. Further showers of sleet and snow overnight. Rather icy on untreated surfaces, with snow accumulating even to low levels. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

Monday:

Another day of snow showers and strong northeasterly winds. Further accumulations of snow are likely, even to lower levels. Remaining cold or bitterly cold, with overnight frost and ice. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Getting rather tiresome this. Significant accumulations were never forecast last night. The proper cold is only just arriving. Last night was a bonus if you could get it, and that was mainly for places at altitude. With temps and dewpoints above freezing any brief snow cover was likely to thaw.

A different story from today though, with snow showers more widespread tomorrow.

The north sea is coming to life. You can see the southward progression of convection over the past 2 hours as the cold air floods south, from Newcastle less than 2 hours ago to Scarborough now. 412266644_Screenshot_20210207-054314_NWStormRadar.thumb.jpg.1bdc0365a47ff3c870cded4328508caf.jpg1106855060_Screenshot_20210207-054321_NWStormRadar.thumb.jpg.003284b346d99a85cf4866d634dc63f8.jpg1858259583_Screenshot_20210207-054329_NWStormRadar.thumb.jpg.2949f832c26bf7e7dbfa2843ae1158f9.jpg
